Birchwood Park Family Safe After Fire
A neighbor's quick action helps family, pets escape fire on Teakwood Drive.
As cleanup from Friday’s storm continued in the Birchwood Park section, one resident’s situation became more difficult as a fire broke out at a Teakwood Drive home early Saturday evening.
Capt. John Rein said the fire was reported just before 6:30 p.m. by a neighbor who smelled smoke. All of the residents of the home – including their pets – were safely evacuated before Patrolman Eric Haugh arrived, Rein said.
Firefighters from the Pioneer Hose, Breton Woods and Laurelton fire companies responded to the fire, which was reported to be under control by 7:30 p.m.

While most of the homes in Birchwood Park had their power restored by late Saturday afternoon, there were still a handful without power, and police could not say for certain whether the Teakwood Drive home had electricity at the time of the fire or not.
