A Slow Mischief Night in Brick

Some disorderly persons calls, but nobody arrested

It was a quiet "mischief night" in Brick this year.

Brick Police Capt. John Rein said Monday that nobody was arrested between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. the night before Halloween, a time commonly known to be one when acts of criminal mischief are perpetrated, often in the form of property damage.

"It was relatively quiet as far as anything malicious," Rein said.

Rein said police fielded about 100 calls total during the hours referenced, about 30 of which were reporting disorderly persons or groups. Rein said some calls were about Halloween parties, but nothing got out of hand.

"Nobody got out of control," Rein said.

There were no reports of property damage, Rein said, though there were a few instances of houses or trees being "toilet papered." He said that a few juveniles were driven home to their parents by police, but none were arrested.

"We did have a lot of patrols out there," Rein said, adding that the night before Halloween is one where the department restricts vacation time from being taken in order to maximize the number of officers available for duty. He credited the visibility of patrols for keeping the overall number of incidents to a minimum.
