3 Injured, Including Pedestrian, in Brick Accident

Traffic on Brick Blvd., Cedar Bridge Ave. detoured for two hours Friday evening

Three people were injured in an accident at the busy intersection of Brick Boulevard and Cedar Bridge Avenue late Friday afternoon, police said.

Adina Melcer, 23, of Lakewood, and Jesse A. Woscinski, 33, of Toms River, were both driving south on Brick Boulevard when Melcer's 2006 Nissan Altima crossed into the path of Woscinski's 1988 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck, causing a collision, Officer Scott Dierking said.

The accident occurred at about 4:55 p.m.

After impact, the Nissan began to rotate and struck a pedestrian, Fabian Cortez, 58, of Brick, who was standing with his bicycle on the southwest corner of the intersection, Dierking said.

Melcer and a passenger, Rebecca R. Melcer, 57, of Lakewood, were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Both were being treated for head and neck injuries, police said.

Cortez was transported to Ocean Medical Center, Brick, and then to Jersey Shore, where he was being treated for a head injury.

Woscinski was not injured.

Southbound traffic on Cedar Bridge Avenue and Brick Boulevard was detoured during the investigation for approximately two hours, Dierking said.

Dierking and Sgt. Jay Lampiasi of the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded and are conducting the crash investigation. The cause of the crash is still pending further investigation, Dierking said. Anyone with information surrounding the crash is being asked to contact the Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140.
