Give Ducey a Chance

I’m a registered independent.  I don’t belong to a political party though admit to having helped in local Democratic campaigns in recent years.  I support  Republican Steve Lonegan and the Tea Party’s agenda of less government, adherence to the Constitution, Second Amendment rights and their pro-life stance, and I will vote to re-elect Christie.  Locally, I support Democrat John Ducey for mayor, despite the vicious smear campaign being conducted by local Republicans.   I recently received five obviously very expensive campaign flyers in the mail supporting Sangiovanni for mayor, the last four accusing Ducey of lying, being greedy and causing Brick taxes to go up.  The flyers conveniently omit that Sangiovanni has been enjoying living off the public teat for some time now.  He served on the BTMUA and collected a salary; he then got elected to the township council and collected a salary plus, for a while, health benefits which he gave up in lieu of $4000 added to his council salary; next, he was hired by the Board of Education as head of transportation (did politics play a role in that?) where he receives both a salary and health benefits.  Combined, Sangiovanni collects well over $100,000 from the taxpayers.  And he calls Ducey “greedy”?  Republicans claim John Ducey said he would not take health benefits, but then did.  At meetings I attended during his council campaign Ducey professed that he, like many council people, would take the benefits since they came with the job.  He also said he would give up the salary, and continues to do so.  So isn't it the Republicans who are really the liars?  Sangiovanni talks about cutting taxes and being a “fiscal conservative”, but his record proves otherwise.  Let’s not forget that he supported a nearly $10 million bond issue to purchase the Ice Palace debacle until the StopOverSpending campaign intervened.  Sangiovanni is relying on smear tactics to get elected because he has little else to stand on, and it is equally apparent that he and his running mates are well financed by the power brokers, and for obvious reasons.  Regrettably, many will go to the polls and simply vote the “party line” because under our partisan form of government choices are limited.  But for those who are independent or yet undecided, reject the dirty campaign tactics by Sangiovanni and the local Republicans and give Ducey a chance.
