' Past and Present '

.  We may remember these stories of relative peace of mind   -   "Safest Towns in America - 2007 - Brick NJ. #3 , Toms River NJ. #9 - respectively" .  .   .  Today Brick and Toms River are not to be found on any such list, and by this unfortunate opinion, the reasons may be : Radical devaluation of community values and cultural integrity - partly due to statistical / demographic changes; The casual indifference to public indecency, vulgarity, wholesale violence, and reckless anti social behavior ; The obsession with narcissism, wasteful consumerism, degenerate public figures, and barbaric sensationalism ; A litany of crime related issues such as gangs, drugs, guns, prostitution, robbery, crimes against seniors, DWUI incidents, an assortment of internet scams and fraud ; An overwhelmed system of services ; A void of visionary leadership. .
