Obituary: Jane R. Sprouls

Jane R. Sprouls, 88, of Leisure Village East in Lakewood, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at home.

Born in Jersey City, Jane Young graduated from Snyder High School in 1943. As a young woman, she worked for Seton Hall University and Tidewater Oil. In 1949 she married John T. Sprouls, and in 1956 they moved to Belford to raise a family. She was an active parishioner of St. Mary's RC Church, New Monmouth, and served as a secretary at St. Mary's elementary school for over a decade. She also worked as the office manager for Shoal Harbor senior housing in Port Monmouth. After retiring she and Jack moved to Lakewood in 1993 where she was a vibrant member of the Leisure Village East community.

Jane is remembered as a kind and loving mother and grandmother, devoted wife, true friend, and thoughtful neighbor. She was the beating heart of her family. Her love, compassion, selflessness, curiosity, quick sense of humor, and warm presence will be deeply missed. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Ientile (New York, NY); sons and daughters-in-law, John H. and Deborah (Brick), Robert Sprouls and Lisa Vahdat (Westport, CT), David Sprouls and Kate Wood (New York, NY); and 8 grandchildren, Steven, Michelle, Kelly, Dan, Catherine, Alexandra, Aidan, and Patrick. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Young (Collingswood, NJ).

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 7, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 8, at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Visitation, 730 Lynnwood Avenue, Brick. Burial will follow at the NJ Veteran's Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
