Obituary: Charles Abbey

Charles Abbey, 89, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away at Seacrest Nursing Home on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013. 

Born in Cahoes, NY, he lived in Binghamton, NY, Vestel, NY, Brick, NJ and New Gretna, NJ before moving to Little Egg Harbor in 2007.  

Charles was a graduate of Mechanicsville High School and Syracuse University.  He served in the US Army Air Corps  and worked as a salesman at Post Lumber in Manasquan, and for A’s Lumber in Manasquan.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in New Gretna and was President of the Friendly Seniors in New Gretna.  He enjoyed repairing old clocks, woodworking, building furniture and camping in the Adirondacks.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Grace Abbey, son James Abbey and brothers Winslow and Gifford Abbey.

He is survived by sons Charles Abbey (Diane) of New Paltz, NY and Edward Abbey of Tacoma, WA, daughter Marian Assur (Leo) of New Gretna,daughter-in-law Cinda of Clearwater, FL, grandchildren Mark Abbey, Robert Abbey (Christine), Brenda Durvage (Scott), Courtney Assur and Andrew Assur, step-grandchildren Scott, Jeanette and Tina and great grandchildren David, Michael, Maysie Grace and Harper Grace.

A Funeral Service will be on Thursday October 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Manahawkin United Methodist Church, 116 Stafford Ave. Manahawkin, NJ 08050.  Interment will be at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.
