A Brick Township woman who worked as a model and actress and appeared on the cover of a Chubby Checker album has died.

Joan D. Buchanan, 75, died June 9 at her home, according to an obituary posted on Legacy.com.

Buchanan, the obituary said, was born in Pennsylvania and lived in Newark before moving to Brick in 1964. A graduate of Northwestern University, Buchanan worked as a model and actress early in her career and was the original model on the cover of Chubby Checker's "Twist" album.

Buchanan is best known in Brick for her family's business – Buchanan's Beer Distributors and car wash on Herbertsville Road – and for playing the organ at Epiphany Roman Catholic Church in Brick and St. Martha's Church in Point Pleasant Borough, the obituary said.

Buchanan's funeral was held June 13.
