The Mean Spirit of Opposition

Post Election Day response to readers of the post "Why I voted for President Barack Obama".

The greatness of our nation lies in the ability for each of us to speak our minds, express our thoughts and opinions and disagree with each other.  I must tell you that since I cast my vote for the winning candidate, the responses during the election and after, have been filled with anger and a mean spiritedness that is troubling.

Now, I have a thick skin and frankly do not care that most of the readers of this blog have a position in opposition to mine, but come on folks, you can express yourselves with your own set of opinions which you are entitled to, but not as Pat Moynahan once said, with your own set of facts. Anger is fine, but don't take it out on me.

Your guy lost for reasons that are more tied to your party and to the selection process of the nominee. Mocking me, criticizing my teaching abilities and expressing your anger in this way might be more appropriate with a radio celebrity than a simple, dedicated citizen with an opinion different that most of the readers of my post.  Thanks for your spirit and energy and I hope you wish our President well and pray for his success just like Mitt Romney did.

@Phil, I can see that cost for a family plan. As far as rates going down. No need to throw out a theory when you can check. Go here: http://companyprofiles.healthcare.gov/ Go down to: Find Basic Information About Your Insurance Company Enter the state and your healthcare company name (it should bring up choices like a google search) chose MLR. Hit search. Look down the page that comes up. This is done on an annual basis. The insurer could still raise rates as long as thye show the proper percentage is going to your medical coverage. If they come up short, they can just send you a rebate. Don't count on rates going down. from the site: On June 1, 2012, health insurers submitted their annual reports for 2011. They reported how much premium income they received and how they spent it. Insurers that owe rebates must pay—and provide a notice to consumers—by August 1, 2012. Consumers may see the "rebate" in a number of ways. These include: A rebate check in the mail; A lump-sum reimbursement to the same account that was used to pay the premium if it was paid by credit card or debit card; A direct reduction in their future premiums; or Your employer using one of the above rebate methods, or applying the rebate in a manner that benefits employees.
