1,200 Residents Experienced Power Loss This Morning, Says JCP&L

Power now restored to nearly all residents of Brick Township

A power outage in the area of Lanes Mill Road in Brick Township this morning led to just over 1,200 residents beginning their weekend in the dark.

“The call came in at 6:16 a.m.,” said Pete Johner, Area Manager for Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L). “Approximately 1,210 residents were without power at that time, and we had nearly everyone restored by 9:24 a.m.”

Johner said that “several” outages were likely due to a faulty piece of equipment on a specific pole in the area, which led to personnel and a contract crew being dispatched to the scene.

“Our crew found a fault in the equipment on the pole, so we had to open and close the circuits, and make repairs,” said Johner.

Johner described the installation of a recloser, which opens and close the circuits several times to clear faults in the power lines. It was the use of that device which led to power being restored, he said.

Johner added that all but 39 customers were now back up and running with electricity, as of 9:35 this morning.
