Supporters Raise $2700 For Girl Struck By Car Near Bus Stop

Accident was Oct. 9 on Mantoloking Road

A campaign to raise money for a Lake Riviera School sixth grader hit by a vehicle near her bus stop reached its $2,500 goal less than a month after the accident left her family with medical costs.

So far, supporters have raised more than $2,700 through the GoFundMe.com campaign begun by the family after the Oct. 9 accident.

The incident, on Mantoloking Road just after 7 a.m., left sixth grader Laurel Johnson with a concussion, scrapes and bruises after she was hit by a car while crossing the street to catch her bus.

The sixth grader was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center originally in critical condition. Her mother Jennifer Johnson reported a month ago the daughter was discharged from the hospital and would expect to miss several weeks of school.

In the month since the incident, friends and family organized the GoFundMe campaign in hopes of covering medical costs, and businesses such as Brick House Bar and Grill hosted fundraisers.
