MTV's 'Jersey Shore' Is Ending for Good

The final season will begin airing in October.

Love or hate its rambunctious cast, the show that made Seaside Heights famous—or, at least, infamous—is going off the air.

MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series Jersey Shore will end after a recently taped season airs this fall.

The sixth season of the series, which since 2009 has chronicled the oft-drunken misadventures of eight twentysomethings living in a house on Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, will premiere Oct. 4 at 10 p.m.

But when the season ends, the show and the cast will not return.

The network will air the retrospective Gym, Tan, Look Back as part of a farewell marathon Sept. 6, and the cast will make an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards that night.

Lately, the production crews have been filming a spin-off show, Snooki and J-Woww, in Manchester.

The network has not offered a reason why the original series is ending.

In addition to the well-documented antics at local night spots such as Karma, Aztec and The Beachcomber Bar and Grill, three cast members wound up in handcuffs over the last several summers the show has taped in Ocean County.

Cast member Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was accepted into the state's pretrial intervention program after being charged with aggravated assault, and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Deena Cortese both were arrested and paid fines relating to borough ordinance violations in Seaside for nuisance behavior.

There is coverage of the shooting on several of our sites in the area where it occurred. Check out this link: http://patch.com/A-xyWh For the record, there is no Old Bridge Patch site, but our adjacent sites are covering the event due to the gravity of what happened. Also, this article on Jersey Shore simultaneously appears on several Patch sites, and reader comments from all of those sites are included in this comments section.

Billabong, Travel to Chicago some time. Their politicians will make ours look like saints.

Whatever Patch. You also could have seen the story about the Old Bridge shooting on any of the network news programs. Do you get all your news from the Left Coast Huff Post?

Anyone blaming Seaside being a slum on the show is extremely naive. Seaside is a disgusting town. The same rooms that tourists are paying $300 a night for are section 8 rooms as soon as the summer is over. That being said, the show has literally made Seaside a destination and has pumped millions of dollars into the town. It's incredible how people don't realize that and say the show and its cast is stupid. They're all getting rich by going out and doing something most of us all do/did when we were younger which is party and have fun. I'm not saying I would want my future children to be like them but it could be worse.

Never saw the show, but I think there was trash in Seaside long before that show was on TV.

I remember all of that too. My whole family spent summers on the beach in Seaside Heights and every night on the boardwalk. You went on rides and won prizes. You stood outside of the Chatterbox to listen to the music. There were no fights, no drunks. It was family fun, but that was a long time ago.

I believe that's "Manchester" ... England. ??? Not NJ.
Rick September 01, 2012 at 12:56 PM
England? So Jersey Shore was actually done on the Isle of Jersey?
Keven Canning September 01, 2012 at 02:16 PM
Yes Gino, The "reality' show Jersey Shore does indeed give the impression to people from other states that this is how New Jersey citizens act in reality, while the "fictional" show The Sopranos is taken as fiction.

ANYONE READING THE LETTERS IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPERS WHEN THERE IS A CONTROVERSY IN OCEAN CITY (BIKE PATH IN THE WETLANDS - BYOB) SHOULD KNOW THAT THE SHOW "JERSEY SHORE" IS NOT THE ONLY THING THAT GIVES THE SHORE A BAD NAME. SOME OF THE LOCALS IN THIS TOWN ARE AS NASTY AND MEAN SPIRITED AS THEY COME AS EVIDENCED BY THEIR CRAZY LETTERS IN THE PAPERS - CALLING PEOPLE LIARS, DISPARAGING 2ND HOMEOWNERS, MAKING UP CONSPIRACY THEORIES. I FIND THE JERSEY SHORE GROUP PRETTY TACKY BUT SOME OF THE LOCALS IN OCEAN CITY WHO LIKE TO GRAB ATTENTION (COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE OC) TO THE DETRIMENT OF OTHERS - NAME CALL AND DISPARAGE PENNSYLVANIANS ARE MUCH MORE HARMFUL IN THE LONG RUN.

Traveling as much as I do, I can say with complete confidence, those greasey bastards are as toxic as cancer to the image of New Jersey, more specifically shore points.
Virgil Harris September 01, 2012 at 03:00 PM
Stay in PA then, we don't need you here.
JENNIFER September 01, 2012 at 06:41 PM
Virgil?? yes figures anyone named Virgil is either born and raised in Ocean City or deep woods Kentucky same thing
D.W. Kor September 01, 2012 at 06:46 PM
Reality shows are not REALITY! Each character is given a generic outline of what his/her character should portray. The more outlandish the better. Imagine a TV show where people are lying quietly relaxing on the beach sipping bottled water! Ooooh can't you see the advertisers lining up to promote that! I guess a TV camera allows people to ACT differently than their norm. Go figure?

Jennifer - I'm insulted to think that he represents OC. I'm voting on deep woods Kentucky. He doesn't have a nice word to say about anything. read all of his posts today and you will see what I mean. No matter what the subject he has something negative to say. He is a nasty, grumpy old man.
John Smith September 01, 2012 at 07:00 PM
Virgil you speak so eloquently... The verbiage used is concise and to the point. Well spoken.
John Smith September 01, 2012 at 07:01 PM
What if he is from the south-end of OC... they are kinda weird down there.... feeding foxes and what not....
JENNIFER September 01, 2012 at 07:16 PM
Yes there are some lovely people in OC but there are also some very big HICKs and some small minded, nasty characters in this town. I saw the letters in the local papers written by many of the locals and it was back woods Kentucky all over the place. And that "Committee for the Preservation of OC" what a bunch of hypocrites the same ones who wanted to destroy acres of wetlands for nothing wanted to "preserve" OC. They are the same ones who called people liars and all kinds of names the paper - No I will take Snookie over that group any day because she is tacky but harmless. Some of the local hicks here are nasty and just plain stupid and love to get attention any way they can. BIG FISH IN A SMALL BOWL! They would be laughed out of anywhere else but here they get the attention they crave.
JENNIFER September 01, 2012 at 07:23 PM
Virgil may not be able to answer anymore. He is writing his memoir - Return to Deliverence
Linda September 01, 2012 at 07:40 PM
Thank God they have taken out the trash!
Kim E September 02, 2012 at 02:37 AM
Well ..Now we all know pigs can't fly but they can stand upright on all fours. 'Cept when they're drunk. Just my 2¢.
Kim Jost September 02, 2012 at 12:49 PM
I fully agree with you Mattie. Too bad we have to go to other sources for our news. And to Rick, this article showed up in my "Patch" too and I live in Eatontown. so it's not only in the Barnegat-Manahawkin Patch
Rick September 02, 2012 at 03:28 PM
Virgil "Gus" Grissom was one of NASA's early astronauts and could possibly have been one of the ones who went to the moon had he not died in '67. And he was from Indiana.
Momof4 September 02, 2012 at 06:16 PM
Real Jersey folks know what Jersey is like.. Everyone is saying they gave Jersey a bad name.. When sopranos was on did anyone say that then? How about those New Jersey housewives? There was a casting call for the Jersey shore and those people we're chosen.. It's MTV you all should have beef with.. Not the cast.. They we're paid to do a job and they did it... The cast made millions for themselves.. Wouldn't you take that job for the money too?
Rick September 02, 2012 at 06:25 PM
Well, I might have but I would have asked for a senior discount at the bars
stanley zalewski September 03, 2012 at 01:10 AM
best thing that is happening at the jersey shore????????????????????
Ben Anderson September 04, 2012 at 03:00 PM
I don’t think too many people will admit they will miss Jersey Shore. That said, I was surprised when my coworker at Dish said they were really going to miss the show. They loved watching the Situation and said he inspired them to get into shape. My coworker has a Hopper DVR with a 2 TB hard drive. He has been recording Jersey Shore every time it comes on so he can re-watch the show over and over. I guess with the 2000 hours of recording time available he’ll have plenty of room, but, using it for Jersey Shore? That I’m not sure about.
