Christie Administration Continuing 'Season of Service' With Brick Event

For Thanksgiving last year, Gov. Chris Christie and his cabinet members engaged in charitable efforts before the holiday, as part of what the governor called a "Season of Service."

Christie took to a Toms River Lowe's, to help hand out prepared Thanksgiving dinners donated by Boston Market, in one of the areas stricken by Hurricane Sandy, while his department heads traveled throughout the state to pitch in at events elsewhere.

This week, the current "Season of Service" will begin, complete with a visit to Brick by Corrections Commissioner Gary Lanigan on Tuesday.

This would be the third annual season of service. Lanigan's visit will center around Thanksgiving meal packaging at the Brick Visitation Relief Center, 725 Mantoloking Road, at 10:30 a.m.

According to a state press release explaining the initiative: "Beginning tomorrow, Christie Administration officials will volunteer their time and highlight service opportunities around the state as part of the third annual “Season of Service.” Continuing the success of previous service initiatives, this year’s November and December activities will continue to serve New Jersey’s most vulnerable residents as well as families and communities recovering from Superstorm Sandy. This week, Cabinet officials will celebrate the beginning of the holiday season by packaging and serving Thanksgiving meals at various locations throughout the state."
