ADLER on breaking (or failing to break) Gridlock - in her own words.

Audio of the Asbury Park Editorial Board Meeting - hosting the candidates for the Third Congressional District in NJ.

There's an old chinese
proverb that applies here..."When the horse is dead - dismount."
(Part one of a series)

Recently, the candidates for Congress in the Third District met with the Editorial
Board of the Asbury Park Press to answer questions about their candidacy, and
their positions on various important topics related to the upcoming election.
One of the other independent candidates recorded most of the session. The audio
quality is very poor, but you can hear the following exchange quite clearly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6reofzkePS4&feature=plcp

This summarizes my opponent, Shelley Adler's, response to the question asked each candidate by the board:

"How would you end partisan gridlock in Congress?

Adler...."My answer to the partisan gridlock is to get this country moving again." (exact quote) {11:34} - - - (Well, that was generic.)

Interviewer (puzzled)...."How would you do that?"

Adler's answers then wander off to the following topics, unrelated to the question
asked, for approximately two minutes...

Criticizes Runyan's lack of bi-partisanship (she's not wrong, but it doesn't answer the question). {11:40}

"Oil Company Subsidies by Republicans" talking point {11:58}

"Shred Medicare" talking point (politifactNJ says that's a lie) {12:04}

"Tax Breaks for the wealthy" talking point {12:13}

"No Middle Class Tax Breaks from the Republicans" talking point {12:16}

Interviewer...."What would you do to get them to move on that - basically, you're saying "It's their fault!"

They're saying it's your fault. Where's the middle ground? What
would you do? Where is the middle ground on any of this?"

(Nothing on WHAT SHE WOULD DO, or, at least, do differently.)

The whole message is "It's their fault." No solutions - just blame.

So far, apparently, in her mind at least, the answer to gridlock would be ...
more gridlock?

She goes on, repeating the same tired talking points over and over, until finally - the answer to the question asked!

Adler...."You need to change the people in Congress." (QUOTE) {12:31}

I agree, Ms. Adler - It IS time to change the people in Congress - and not just in our district, either.

Both the Democratic and Republican parties have driven us up to the edge of the
"fiscal cliff" you keep mentioning, if not already over it. They both have utterly failed to resolve or accomplish anything of significance in the last several years.

It's been over 1200 days without a BUDGET. Who is responsible for that? BOTH
parties.

I doubt they could even find consensus on the weather.

The D's and the R's are wasting our time, our money, and our future.

You're right, Ms. Adler - it IS time for a change.

We of the Democratic-Republican Party DO have the answer to the perpetual two
party grid-lock, and it's right in the Constitution.

Here's the solution your parties fail to recognize, in spite of having ALL sworn to
uphold the Constitution. Your parties have known of the discovery of the
Ratification of "Article the First" for MONTHS, and have fought tooth
and nail to keep it out of the press.

Application of "Article the First" of the "Articles of Amendment" - our
"Bill of Rights" - will provide for sufficient independent voices necessary to break the present "two-party" gridlock, by apportioning the House equally, with district sizes as proscribed by our Constitution - districts which are manageable, and which insure access by and accountability to the people within them.

It's time for an independent voice in Congress - one not burdened with misplaced loyalty to their party's platform over the best interests of the people they were
elected to serve - one not beholden to special interests in the pay-to-play
world of business as usual.

We need candidates who are honor-bound to serve "Main Street"

- not "Wall Street" or "K" Street.

Who signed the "Change the Rules" pledge?

My opponents have had it to review for months. (See it for yourself at changetherulespledge.org)

Shelley, John - I signed. Will you?

(Coming up in part two - wait until you hear Runyan's answer on Social Security/Medicare and raising the retirement age...IN HIS OWN WORDS!  Under 75?  You need not apply.)
