Brick, Mantoloking Working on Easements, Pushing for Dune Projects
Brick- Officials in Brick Township and Mantoloking Borough are both hoping their residents sign easements allowing for an Army Corps of Engineers dune project that will shore up the oceanfront and, hopefully, prevent breaches like the one that occurred near the Mantoloking Bridge during Superstorm Sandy.
That breach, which led to a 20 foot-deep inlet forming between the ocean and the base of the county-owned bridge across Barnegat Bay, is largely blamed for the resulting floods in mainland neighborhoods such as Shore Acres and Baywood in Brick Township.

New FEMA Flood Maps Could Be As Devastating As Superstorm Sandy, Township Officials Say
Berkeley- Berkeley Township officials will travel to Trenton on Wednesday, to protest the new FEMA advisory base elevations Township Council President James J. Byrnes describes as "nuts."
"This is just crazy," Byrnes said at the Feb. 11 Township Council meeting. "You get a little water in your house, all of a sudden you're in a V zone."
Berkeley officials have yet to approve the suggested elevations -introduced by FEMA in December after Superstorm Sandy and mandated by Gov. Chris Christie two weeks ago.

Baby Born on Parkway in Tinton Falls Early Tuesday Morning
Tinton Falls- A healthy newborn baby was delivered on the Garden State Parkway in Tinton Falls early Tuesday morning.
State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman said the baby was successfully delivered on the shoulder near mile marker 104 by the northbound Asbury Park Toll Plaza around 2:50 a.m.
Grossman said the baby was delivered before emergency services could arrive.

Elevating Homes After Sandy: 'Wait-and-See Approach Is Prudent'
Berkeley- With a flood map still in flux and flood insurance premium increases still not set, property owners may have too little information to make an informed decision on whether to rebuild their homes at a higher elevation, according to state officials and local insurance agents.
Record flooding from Superstorm Sandy on Oct. 29 caused billions of dollars worth of damage to the coastlines of New Jersey and New York, and in the aftermath of the storm, many owners are wondering if they will be required to elevate their homes.

Sandy Assistance Streamlined for Developers and Landlords
Jersey Shore- The Federal Housing Administration will speed the approval of applications made by owners of multi-family apartments in New York and New Jersey looking to refinance mortgages, substantially rehabilitate their properties, or construct new developments in Hurricane Sandy-impacted areas, U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan said in a release.

Middletown's New Sonic Drive-In Revs Up For Business (Video)
The newest outpost of the national burger fast food chain that features delivery by 1950s-style carhops on roller skates has opened in Middletown at Route 35 and Harmony Road. The franchise is owned by Anthony and Karen Cirillo of Freehold, who have launched Sonic Drive-Ins in Tinton Falls, Howell and Edison. Future projects are a Sonic for Paige Avenue in Staten Island, and perhaps a presence on the Point Pleasant or Seaside boardwalks.
