Tornado Watch Issued for Shore Area

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Tornado watch for much of the Shore area, including Brick and the rest of Ocean County. The watch is in effect until 7 p.m. tonight.

Monmouth and Atlantic counties are also included in the watch, and the impending foul weather could affect evening commutes from areas north and south.

After an overcast-but-windy start to the day, NWS is predicting plenty of wet weather ahead. 

Storms related to a cold front are set to begin pounding the region this afternoon. At 12:30 p.m., the front line of storms could be seen on a radar map just east of Reading, Pa.

Locally, the NWS predicts the showers could develop into thunderstorms after 2 p.m. which could bring "gusty winds and heavy rain." With temperatures in the 80's and sustained wind speeds getting as high as 26 m.p.h. it should make for an interesting day on the roads. Wind gusts could approach 50 m.p.h. over the course of the day. 

The rain is expected to last through Tuesday night with the strong winds winding down by Wednesday while the showers are likely to continue. The temperature will also start to lower on Wednesday with a high of only around 71 predicted for the day. 

Once this storm passes the rest of the week should be nice again with sunny weather and highs in the 70's until at least Friday.
