Phone service was out Tuesday night for some residents, officials said.
Brick Police Capt. John Rein said Verizon was experiencing trouble with residential phone lines in a large section of the township.
"Specifically affected at this time are homes in the Midstreams section of town," said Rein in an e-mail. "We do not have specific numbers of homes affected but those who are affected have trouble with outgoing calls. Verizon is aware and working on the issue."

Rein said Verizon has informed the department that it could take a day to correct the problem. The outage does not affect cell phone users.
