Morning Deluge Causing Issues in Brick

Flooding reported in some neighborhoods; traffic affected on a number of roads

A morning storm that has been dumping heavy rain on Brick Township over the past several hours is causing a number of issues in town.

Flooding has been reported in the Herbertsville section, where Herbertsville Fire Company crews were on Holly Berry Lane responding to two houses that, according to emergency communications, had as much as 6 inches of water on their first floors.

In another incident, firefighters responded to Herborn Avenue, where a car became disabled after being flooded with rainwater. The car appeared to have gotten stuck, then was pushed out of the flood.

Brick Township police reported flooding and debris in the roadway at the intersection of Herbertsville and Lanes Mill roads, flooding near the entrance to Greenbriar I at Burnt Tavern Road and flooding on Huxley and Emerald drives in Lake Riviera. Route 70 at Brick Boulevard was down to one lane due to flooding.

By 11:50 a.m., weather radar showed the bulk of the heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity moving away from the Brick area to the northeast, however additional bands of heavy precipitation were located to the west, near the Philadelphia area.

According to the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, the threat of showers and an occasional thunderstorm will last through Tuesday.

A flood watch remains in effect through 2 a.m. Tuesday.
