Governor on Monmouth, Ocean Buyout Program: 'People Not Looking to Sell'

People in Monmouth and Ocean counties want to "repair and stay," not be bought out, according to Gov. Chris Christie.

The Governor addressed the issue at a press conference held in Brick Township today, where Gov. Christie announced additional grant funding that has become available for people to raise their homes.

Officials announced earlier this month that an application had been filed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the acquisition and demolition of 85 homes impacted by Superstorm Sandy in Sayreville and South River.

Those homes were willingly given up by their owners due to damage sustained during Sandy and other recent storms, Christie said.

But a buyout program has not generated similar interest in this area, he said today.
