Families Continue To Struggle Months After Sandy

A stream of people trickled into the Berkeley Township recreation building today all with one goal in mind – answers.
Two months after Sandy, and many residents are still living with family members, living in motels, or even in their cars.
Erik and Tracy Dowgin of Butler Boulevard in Berkeley Township have been out of their home since the storm.
While grateful to their family, whom they have been in Whiting with since the storm, the couple said they are ready to get back into their home. They have not yet, they said, due to myriad hurdles from stat, local, and banking officials.
"The bank says they I cannot get my money until I pay off my mortgage. I have investors that are willing to give me money for the mortgage but they don't want to give me the money until they know that I will have a payout from the bank," Dowgin said.
The Dowgins and others all shared similar stories and Gov. Christie's mobile cabinet attempted to address some of these issues.
And it wasn't just residents who came to discuss with Gov. Christie's administration hurdles that they are attempting to overcome.
Susan Racko, of Homes for All, a Toms River- based not-for-profit affordable housing developer, said she came to the mobile cabinet today to share what her contractors can offer people who have been displaced by the storm.
She also came to discuss some of the hurdles that the contractors have gone through and hopes to urge government officials to streamline the rebuild process
"I am hoping to make the governors office aware that we are coming upon an age where were going to have a lot of people who don't have phones. We need to streamline processes so people can get back into their homes and that we can get others into new homes."
The mobile cabinet is being held in Bayville 630 route nine until 5 PM today
