'Cooler' Weather on the Way

Written by Anthony Bellano

This week's hot weather is expected to continue through Saturday, with thunderstorms and showers paving the way for cooler weather on Sunday.

Conditions will be dangerous for those working outside or living in non-air conditioned homes. Young children and adults over 50 are expected to be adversely impacted, and leaving anyone in non-air conditioned cars, including children and pets, can be fatal, the National Weather Service warns.

While it is still hot, NWS advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, stay in air conditioned rooms and check up on relatives and neighbors.

That was the same advice from some area lifeguards - who noted that this week they are seeing cases of dehydration in area beachgoers.

Those who must work outside are advised to do so in the early morning or evening hours, wear light weight and loose fitting clothing, drink plenty of water and be aware of the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion. It also advises scheduling frequent rest periods in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should move to a cooler location, and anyone suffering heat stroke should call 911.
