Community Emergency Response Team Training To Start Soon

The Brick Township Office Emergency management will be conducting classes for adult residents who would like to volunteer to become a member of the Community Emergency Response Team.

Starting August 14, the program will educate local residents about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills.

The program will review fire safety, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

CERT members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects.

The primary goal of CERT training is to give people the decision-making, organizational and practical skills to offer immediate assistance to family members, neighbors and associates while waiting for help from other resources in the event of a disaster that overwhelms immediate response capabilities, such as a major storm event.

During Hurricane Sandy, members of CERT assisted in the organization and staffing of the emergency management operations center, delivery and distribution of supplies to families in need, and numerous other tasks during the hurricane.

Classes to become a volunteer member of the team begin on Wednesday, August 14 and continue every Wednesday for nine weeks. The class begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m.. For more information dial, 732-262-1167.
