Brick's property tax bills were 24 percent lower than the state average in 2012 - despite increasing slightly over 2011.
Brick's 0.7 percent tax bill hike was 401st out of 566 total tax bill hikes, lower than the state's average of 1.7.
The township's tax bill is 396th out of 566 municipalities, according to a Star-Ledger analysis. Brick's average tax bill is $5,945.88, compared to the state average of $7,870.28.
The Star-Ledger reported noted that property taxes statewide rose 2.4 percent in 2011, the first year Christie’s 2 percent cap was in effect. But the trend of lower increases could be reversed because of Hurricane Sandy, according to the report.
In Manasquan, which suffered some of the worst damage from Sandy, local officials said the cost of rebuilding might drive up tax rates by at least 20 percent, the report said. To top it off, the tax base shrank as properties were washed away, according to the report. Towns are allowed to exceed the 2 percent limit on property tax collections for emergencies such as Sandy.

You're kidding right? Just because a the Town is built out you stil have zoning, board of adjustment, redevelopment of site issues, engineering infrastructure projects, and code enforcement issues. With the effects of the storm that department will be one of the busiest depts over the next 3 years. Many ordinances nedd to be addressed and passed in order to successfully rebuild the Twp. The statement about a do nothing job couldn't be further from the truth. Obviously you don't know the roll that this department plays in the Twp.
us our tax bills are on the low side. We are providing housing to members of our family who lost their home to Sanday. They live in an area that is considered prime real estate because it is o the water. They CAN'T BELIEVE our ROADS, and it is because theynow have to deal with them on a daily basis.Anyone who does that will tell you they need to be fixed. And, we have paid enough in taxies to have them MAINTAINed. Please wake up, Brick township. I have noticed Lake Riveria is not on your radar, and this is no longer acceptable. Our roads were promised to be fixed over a decade ago. 610 residents thought it was important enough to request you do something about it. Well?
Dogwood got paved years ago, and the word was the project would continue throughout, which never happened. The kids with scooters and skateboards all go there, since it has a hill to it too. The Crestwood Terrace / Sloping Hill Terrace sub division has nice roads and sidewalks. But that's a more uniformly middle class area, compared to most of the older State named streets.
Asbury park press Special treatment? Unbelievable.
