Brick Organization to Grant Awards in Honor of Fallen Soldier From Town

B-Mac award is in honor of Brick veteran who died in Iraq

The Brick Township Municipal Alliance Committee on Alcoholism, Drug Abuse and Youth Services (B-MAC) will be rewarding high school seniors who have done good deeds with $500 cash awards, according to the Brick Parks and Recreation Department.

Eligible students must reside in Brick Township and must have made an impact on the life of others by performing a "pure act of kindness," according to B-MAC officials. The award's intent doubles as its name: the Specialist Christopher M. Duffy Pure Act of Kindness Award is named in honor of Duffy, a Brick resident who was killed in action in Iraq on June 4, 2004.

Duffy attended Brick Township’s schools and worked for B-MAC for a number of years before joining the military, facilitating an after-school program for youth.

"Chris exemplified the spirit of pure kindness in his life, and also in his selfless and courageous death," according to a statement from B-MAC on the award.

The award's organizers define a pure act of kindness as a service performed for an individual (non-family member), group or organization without the expectation of any financial or personal gain, such as required service hours or school credit. Applicants submit a personal essay and a letter of verification, both describing the ‘Pure Act of Kindness’ and its impact.
