Brick DUI Checkpoint Leads to Four Arrests, Numerous Tickets

A total of 835 vehicles passed through a sobriety checkpoint in Brick last weekend, and, as a result, four people were were arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, five motor vehicles were impounded, and a total of 26 motor vehicle summonses were issued.

Sergeant Henry J. Drew noted that on June 29, Brick police, using grant funding from the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety,  conducted a checkpoint in the parking lot of the Colonial Funeral Home located at 2170 Highway 88 in Brick.

Drew noted that all vehicles that were travelling on Highway 88 westbound were directed into the checkpoint.  

Once inside the checkpoint,  drivers were given a pamphlet that described the dangers of drinking and driving.

Brick police, in conjunction with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and members of the Lacey Township and Manchester Township Police Departments, who were on scene to assist, would then then have drivers pull to the side for further investigation if they felt there were indicators of driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.  

A total of 835 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was in operation from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m.
