Giving Your Special Needs Child Special Attention During Divorce

Giving Your Special Needs Child Special Attention During Divorce

In order to address the needs of your child/ren during your divorce, it is important to recognize that children with special learning, emotional and/or social needs generally experience their parent's divorce differently than more typical children. This is not a surprise to their parents; you already know that your child requires unique and individualized support. Dr. Dale Seiden, at the request of Divorce Information NOW, has developed a workbook to help ensure that your child will receive the help he may really, very seriously need at this time of upheaval and transition in your family.

Take a look! This workbook was created as a safety net for you to see if any "red flags" emerge as you fill it out. Should this happen, and your intuitions about your child and/or prior diagnoses lead you to believe that your child could use some professional, specialized help to get through this family dynamic more easily, this workbook will be a valuable tool to use in your role as advocate, protector, and great parent.  In addition, this workbook will act as a vehicle to help you and your chosen professional to navigate proper, targeted, appropriate support services for your child.

You can't do everything. It's prudent to seek help. Just the fact that you are concerned enough to do this bodes very well for your child to get through the divorce process as well as possible: he/she has a mommy or daddy who is paying attention to his/her feelings, fears, and who has a parent who is committed to helping him or her adjust to a very difficult shift in family dynamics.
