Harrogate Residents, Staff Complete More Than 7,847 Miles as Part of Nationwide Challenge for Seniors

Staff and residents of Harrogate, a senior living community in Lakewood, N.J., participated in a nationwide challenge to surpass walking 1,310 miles between February and March 2014. Harrogate residents walked 4,609 miles, while the staff walked 3,238. Harrogate achieved 7,847 combined total miles. The community was one of 57 senior living communities around the United States that participated in the challenge.

The challenge, Project 1310, was inspired by an employee at a community in Reading, Pa., managed by Life Care Services, a consulting partner with Harrogate. With the help of a friend and the support of her employer, she made it her goal to complete 50 marathons in all 50 states before the age of 50. She completed her quest in the fall of 2013 at the age of 49. Project 1310 was named in recognition of the number of miles she ran in 50 marathons: 1,310.

Harrogate staff members and residents were very excited and motivated to compete in this project. In March, the community also focused on weight loss, healthier meals and safe exercising.
