Jersey Shore Boat Show Begins Friday

Attendees can board 60 boat brands at weekend event

The 2012 Fall Jersey Shore Boat Sale and Expo will take place at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood starting today.

The boat show, organized by the Marine Traders Association of New Jersey, will feature new and pre-owned boats and accessories for sale by retailers up and down the New Jersey coast.

The show is one of two the organization hosts at the ball park each year. The show started several years ago provide local boat dealers and marine businesses a local venue where they could display their offerring at a price lower than some of the major boat shows in Atlantic City, Philadelphia and New York City, show officials have said.

The fall show will feature several 2013 model year boats, said Melissa Danko, MTANJ's president.

Show organizers said this weekend's show will be the organization's largest yet, with 60 different boat brands displayed and visitors having the chance to board all of them.

The show will also feature Kids Cove – programs for "young boaters" which will include touch tanks featuring fish from Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach, lessons in casting a fishing rod plus fun information about local marine species from the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium, as well as craft projects.

There will also be free children's boating and environmental safety classes, a marine safety education booth run by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and a kayak pool sponsored by West Marine.

Admission to the show is $2 per person. Children under 12 are admitted free. Parking is free. The show will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

FirstEnergy park, the home of the BlueClaws baseball team, is located at 2 Stadium Way in Lakewood, off Cedar Bridge Avenue.
