Chain Businesses Interested in Brick's Would-Be Vacant Buildings

From banks to burgers, several well-known businesses have expressed an interest in moving to Brick.

Though few would comment on their specific plans, a check of public records shows a number of national and regional restaurants and other types of businesses are lining up to open their doors in town, including White Castle, Roy Rogers and Buffalo Wild Wings.

Three other businesses have already been approved by the township's planning board, according to Township Planner Mike Fowler: a Quaker Steak and Lube that will occupy what is now Chevy's Fresh Mex restaurant; a branch of Investors Bank which will be built near the corner of Hooper Avenue and Brick Boulevard, near Outback Steak House; and a CVS Pharmacy where the former stood.

Michael DeAngelis, a CVS spokesman, said construction on the new CVS location is set to begin next summer and open in early 2013; Investors Savings Bank officials would not comment on their new location.

Quaker Steak and Lube, a retro family restaurant chain that specializes in buffalo wings, will by about 1,000 feet to open the first location of the chain in New Jersey.

Three other eating establishments are also showing an interest in Brick.

Roy Rogers has applied to perform work at the at the corner of Brick Boulevard and Molly Lane, while White Castle has submitted a plan to build a location at 2778 Hooper Avenue, at the corner of Hooper Avenue and Brick Boulevard.

Neither of the chains would comment, but Fowler said both projects will be heard by the planning board at future meetings. White Castle, specifically, requested a hearing at the March 28 meeting.

Finally, though their name has not appeared on the agenda at any land use meetings, a liquor license sale has indicated that the Blockbuster Video store in the Kennedy Mall shopping plaza may become a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in the future.

The township council last month approved a liquor license transfer to Buffalo Wild Wings for the location.

Messages left with both Blockbuster and Buffalo Wild Wings were not returned.
