Patch's guide to Christmas for couch potatoes

Whether Santa brought you a new TV for Christmas, or you're settling in to watch the tube on your old standby, local cable customers have plenty to choose from over the holiday weekend.

Christmas Day:

12:30 a.m.: "A Diva's Christmas Carol" (WGN) Vanessa Williams stars in this humorous "Christmas Carol" adaptation as Ebony Scrooge, a songstress with a heart of stone—excellent late-night fodder. **

10:00 a.m.: "Scrooged" (AMC) Bill Murray stars in yet another modernized Dickens tale, prepare for an all-day marathon. **

11:45 a.m.: "A Christmas Carol" (TCM) There are many imitations, but nothing touches the original 1938 version starring Reginald Owen, guaranteed to put a smile on your face.  ****

2:30 p.m.: "The Santa Clause" (ABC Family) Tim Allen stars as a reluctant replacement to Kris Kringle in this 1990s favorite.  **

4:30 p.m.: "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" (ABC Family) Macaulay Culkin proves there's nothing like Christmastime in the city. It's one of the few sequels in any genre that measures up to the original. ***

7:00 p.m.: "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (ABC Family) This sardonic cartoon is guaranteed to grow the hearts of misers and whos alike!  ****

8:00 p.m.: "The Wizard of Oz" (TBS) On any day of the year, and especially on Christmas, everyone knows there's no place like home. ****

                  "Elf" (USA) A hearty dose of Will Ferrell is a great way to wind down the day after too much turkey and pie. **
