Repaving Project Approved by Officials

Thiele Road, in the Herbertsville section, to be resurfaced

The township council awarded a $126,213 contract at its May 17 meeting for the repaving a Thiele Road.

The roadway, which serves as the entrance and egress to and from several developments in the Herbertsville section, has been plagued with potholes for a number of years. The sloping roadway, which runs from Herbertsville Road to the Manasquan River, is also known by local residents as a perennial trouble spot during snow storms.

Earle Asphalt Company, of Farmingdale, will perform the work. Earle's bid came in $43,000 below engineers' estimates, according to Business Administrator Scott Pezarras.

Theile Road is the "winner," of sorts, in this year's roadways topping the priority list of roads in need of improvement, Pezarras said.

"When the council first came on board, they said they wanted an inventory of all roads," said Pezarras. "We went with the 'worst is first' model, and we had an engineering firm do a study. Every road within that study was given a number, zero being the worst and 100 being the best."
