Ocean Gate Man Arrested in Connection with Abusing Two Children

Abuse allegedly took place in a Brick home a decade ago, law enforcement officials said.

A 41-year-old Ocean Gate man has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing two children in a Brick Township home a decade ago, and officials with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office are asking that anyone else with information come forward.

Michael LeTrent III, 41, of Ocean Gate, was arrested for abusing the two children - who were then 6 and 12 years of age - after about a 10-day search for him, officials with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced in a press release today.

The release noted that in late May, LeTrent’s alleged female victim reported the abuse to Brick Township police, who in turn notified Det. Stephanie Bayha of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit.

On June 1, two detectives went to LeTrent’s home to interview him in reference the allegations, and advised his girlfriend that they needed to speak with him.

After "several attempts" to reach him, law enforcement officials issued a warrant for LeTrent's arrest, and on June 11, LeTrent surrendered himself to the Manchester Township Police Department.

LeTrent has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Bail was set at $500,000 with no 10% option by Ocean County Superior Court Judge Hodgson.

According to the press release, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Brick Township Police Department are encouraging any other people with information about the case to contact either the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit at 732-929-2027 or the Brick Township Police Department at 732-477-8300.

You obviously have no concept of what it means to be victimized by a pedophile. The only way of copying is to try to forget. These innocent victims spend their lives trying to repress the horrifying memories. To come forward means to drag that all up and again and is the equivalent of reliving it. It is amazing that some do find the strength to come forward at all. Let's hope that none of your family members go through such an experience through which you might gain more understanding of the victim's plight.

This case as well as the cases of accused pedophiles Sylvain Kustyan, Ariel Castro and Jerry Sandusky show that we must catch them BEFORE they prey on our innocent children for years! Castro and Sandusky are behind bars, but Kustyan (formally charged with two counts each of 1st Degree Sodomy and Sexual Abuse of a ten-year-old little boy) fled the US and is currently a fugitive from the law. Kustyan, formerly of Tuscaloosa, AL and France, is thought to be in Europe. As the recidivism rate among pedophiles is virtually 100% it is imperative that we stop them ASAP!

@Caroline, if someone is guilty of raping a child, that individual should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. I understand no one would want to relive that horror. If someone was sexually assaulted decades ago, why come forward years later?

I'm not sure that you are truly interested in an answer to your question which shows a total lack of compassion for the victims. Ten years is a very short time. Coming forward is probably the most emotionally draining action that a victim will take in their lifetime. One person close to me took 20 to approach the police and still has not been able to tell his mother or his wife just what happened. He came forward when he spotted the pervert with another young boy and realized that maybe only his testimony could stop the pervert from harming other innocent young boys. Another close friend took 49 years to come forward and when he did he bawled and bawled and wretched and wretched for nearly a half an hour. I am the person that he came forward to, so I have "liived" their pain, felt their anguish and I know how hard it was for them. As I said, I hope you do not have to live the pain of as the mother of a victim in order to gain the human compassion that you so seem to be lacking.

For your information Bob,,, Michael was NEVER charged with statutory rape back in 1991...The charge was dropped to endangerment due to the fact that the girl he was with was 16 years old...Try getting your facts straight before you assume...
