Update: Brick's snow accumulation has grown past 10 inches as of 10:53 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. A cold snap is expected to quickly drop temperatures this evening into Saturday.

Secondary roads remain treacherous into Friday with more than four inches of snowfall reported overnight in Brick Township.

The National Weather Service Mount Holly's tally for snowfall levels puts Brick at 8 inches of snow at 5 a.m. In comparison, Manahawkin had 5 inches of accumulation at 1 a.m. and Eatontown had 7 inches at 2:25 a.m.

Along the waterfront, high tide is expected at 8:25 a.m. with the NWS warning tide levels may be 7.5 feet above normal in places such as Seaside Heights. Water was reportedly up to the dunes in Lavallette as the storm picked up speed Thursday night.

Widespread closures of school districts for Friday, along with road restrictions on the Garden State Parkway, have local police encouraging residents to stay home.

Vehicles and property sitting curbside should be moved to allow snow plows to pass. Salting began at midnight Thursday in Brick and plows were launched Thursday evening.

County plows first targeted the "500 series" roads, such as routes 539, 571 and 528, will be the first Ocean County roads to be plowed, followed by "secondary roads," such as Herbertsville Road in Brick and Arnold Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach, according to county officials.

I haven't seen a plow or sander in my neighborhood yet. I have to go to work. Plow my street Ducey. I bet Ducey's street is cleared already. Today is my garbage day. When are the trucks coming? My can is filled from Christmas and Kwanzaa. This mayor and council are the worst.... CLEAR the snow already.
YouSuck January 03, 2014 at 08:33 AM
Andy pat must live with the Mayor. I called 5 family members and friends and NONE of their streets are plowed. No one has seen a township truck once. This new administration bet start a committee to think of ways to plow the streets. Can't wait for them to be gone.
Bob A. Luey January 03, 2014 at 08:53 AM
curb to curb already ? thanks DPW , good job!
Glenn January 03, 2014 at 08:57 AM
SimonSays you're an idiot.
A mother January 03, 2014 at 09:06 AM
Hey Simon we don't get garbage pickup when there is a snow storm. Stop your bitching and go shovel out and a truck will be by to do your road by than. Let's give Ducey a chance I know the last one was only in it for himself. Enjoy your snow day peeps.
YouSuck January 03, 2014 at 09:11 AM
My garbage better be picked up today or tomorrow. Ducey is a failure. Plow my streets Ducey. It's past 9:00 am already
Lori Morrison January 03, 2014 at 09:22 AM
Another inch or two fell after my street was plowed and it is still snowing. Have patience people!
Catherine Galioto (Editor) January 03, 2014 at 09:33 AM
Good morning. Roads are still poor, and at this hour Brick has nine inches of accumulation, according to the National Weather Service.
Just saying January 03, 2014 at 09:49 AM
Simon says . Why don't you give your address and maybe the council can send a truck over your way !
Susan January 03, 2014 at 09:51 AM
I heard the plows come by twice around 7:30am and yesterday am they had already treated the roads. No one "connected" lives on my street.
BW January 03, 2014 at 10:06 AM
I had a plow down my street about 4 am. The county hasnt even cleared Herbertsville. Simon you are an idiot. Ducey had these guys out all night unlike Stevie who left people plowed in for a week. Get real!
Ryan Meyers January 03, 2014 at 10:24 AM
Don't forget the new Mayor has only been in charge 2 full days. The same workers, same plan on cleaning Brick streets are being used. The only difference is "politics" is out of the scenario.
Glenn January 03, 2014 at 10:31 AM
SimonSays, you're still an idiot.
BrickAmericanMan January 03, 2014 at 10:37 AM
12 inches of snow in the lanes mill/salley ike area. street was plowed by 8am and second plow came at 10am. I knew we would get much more then 6-8inch. another storm brewing and arctic jet stream is in place for the next few weeks.
A mother January 03, 2014 at 12:03 PM
Well simon it's always been that way the garbage trucks are used for plowing Trucks were down my road a couple times plowing . There doing there jobs not much else they can do . Some people like to just sit at there computers all day and complain instead of doing something.
Mrs. G. January 03, 2014 at 12:20 PM
Anyone complaining about an administration who has been in charge for only two days is clearly not complaining about job performance - there is nothing to judge at this point. Not being Simon's wife or neighbor, howerver, is enough to make me happy today. And, I HATE snow!
Andy Pat January 03, 2014 at 12:29 PM
I do not know Ducey and i do not know where he lives. 2 years ago I was snowed in for 4 days. Cul de sacs and dead ends would often get neglected or done last. I was just stating a fact that a plow had given a single pass early this morning before I even woke. I am not throwing roses at the new admin in town hall. Funny tho how some like Simon are throwing turds on Jan 3rd!
Mr. Smith January 03, 2014 at 01:54 PM
Simon really?? Ducey has been in office for two two days The town is still using Uncle Steveys emergency plans. So we are in trouble. But at least unlike Uncle Steve he is not sending people home or trying to run and mind you break a front end loader like Uncle Stevey. The streets will get cleared and life will be back to normal but do not expect to much. Uncle Steve gutted BPW and there are only so many workers to drive the trucks. Simon your street will not be plowed if I can help it.
Ken January 03, 2014 at 01:55 PM
When can you block idiots from posting on here? Someone like "SimonSays" Like his first post was at 8:30 am and it didn't stop snowing yet and this idiot's pouting that his garbage didn't get picked up!! Well Dumbo, most garbage trucks have plows on them.
TuesdaySunshine January 03, 2014 at 02:56 PM
Come on guys do you think Simon is for real??? I shutter to think anyone is this obtuse. Lol :)
TuesdaySunshine January 03, 2014 at 02:57 PM
He's clearly trying to get a reaction from you..
BW January 03, 2014 at 04:05 PM
LOL if you click on Simons name you will see has also posted under MYFOOTSASLEEP, AQUALUNG, STEVE, VERA, ANTI-INTERLOPER, Fate skata malaka, I believe the proper term for this is CYBIL
Common Sense January 03, 2014 at 05:05 PM
To make one thing clear, Our Garbage trucks that pick up our Robo-cans do not have plows on them, The only garbage trucks that have plows on them are the old style with the open rear.
YouSuck January 03, 2014 at 05:17 PM
They would be called the "Vera trucks"... the old ones with the open rears that do plow.
Bob A. Luey January 03, 2014 at 05:21 PM
Results are in ! Ducey scores an A+ on clean up of our first major snow storm of the year. Despite being under staffed DPW performed well as expected.
YouSuck January 03, 2014 at 05:29 PM
All of you disgusting dems can't see that I am only doing to Ducey what you have all been doing to steve for the last 6 years. All the dems on here blamed Steve if it was cloudy outside and they wanted to go to the beach. I voted for Steve but I lost faith in him very quickly. I voted for Ducey for council but I lost faith in him even faster. The dems on this board are all hypocrites. Blame Steve for everything wrong, including the Giants losing season, and give all the dems an excuse for their failures , including Scarpellis extortion and bribe soliciting.
YouSuck January 03, 2014 at 05:31 PM
My road is a solid sheet of ice. No sand and no salt. My garbage better get picked up tomorrow.
Just saying January 03, 2014 at 06:46 PM
Simonsays go put on a pair of ice skates and enjoy!! And I called Dpw and Thursdays pickups will be Saturday and Fridays pickups will be Sunday ..
Sharon January 03, 2014 at 07:12 PM
Brick's channel 20 just now said Friday's garbage pick up is being picked up Saturday 1/4. Don't shoot the messanger, I'm just relaying what I read
