'Dog Fest' Comes to Windward Beach Saturday

A celebration of everything canine

The annual Dog Fest celebration of everything canine will be held at Windward Beach Park Saturday.

In previous years, hundreds of dogs and their dedicated companions turned out in droves to mingle with other dog lovers and their pups at the park, which has been formally declared "dog-friendly" for the special occasion by the township council.

According to the Brick Rotary Club, which sponsors the event, the day’s festivities will include canine demonstrations, contests, prizes, plus "food and fun for our furry friends and their families."

The day will include contests for dogs in costume, in various categories. Demonstrations of various service dogs will take place throughout the day as well. Plus, families can shop for supplies and services for their pets provided by local vendors.

Last year, the Rotary Club said, more than 2000 people and 1000 dogs attended.

Dog Fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 6 at Windward Beach Park.  All dogs must be leashed at all times. For a complete list of participants please visit the Brick Rotary's website.

On my way
common sense October 06, 2012 at 02:55 PM
Just don't visit the park the day after, especially in bare feet! And we all thought the goose poop was bad!

I suspect the Rotary Club and other people in charge will be picking up the poop.

What happened to Dog Fest? It was so much better in previous years. Most of the vendors that were involved the last few years weren't there. I always went in previous years and had a great time. Today we stayed 30 minutes and that was it. I know this is the first time the rotary club ran this but frankly it should be the last. Lots of people were complaining about it.... hopefully this will be handed back to the people or company who previously ran it... otherwise I won't be attending next year.

I don't know about past years, this was my 1st (in town) and my dog LOVED it. It wasn't about me having a good time (which I did), it was to give my dog a day with hundreds of other dogs. It was the best treat you could give to a pet that is always there for you, always forgiving and would (in many cases) give their own life for you. I'm so glad I went, I know my "best friend" had an awesome time and we'll certainly be there again next year. Thanks to all who help arrange this. Thank You !!!

This was the third annual Dog Fest run by the Brick Rotary and since its original inception, commercial entities such as the Lakewood Blue Claws Stadium have set the same September dates originally that Dog Fest utilized for The Brick Rotary. The change to October this year was because of that. The Brick Rotary volunteers try to have a family fun day at beautiful Windward Beach Park for all attendees. I would like to personally thank the Brick Council and Mayor for allowing Dog Fest to use Windward Beach. Residents should continue to support Dog Fest in Brick since all funds raised go to Brick Charities

I agree with KLC.I have gone to this every year. Always had a great time. Lots of vendors were missing. Last year over 40 vendors were there. This year I heard that the cost for a table was raised so high lots of people couldn't afford it. It's not really smart to triple the price of a table when we are in a recession. Yes, NJ785 it's supposed to be about the dogs. I have always gotten great info for my dogs as far as foods, caring for them and nice things to buy for them. All of that was lacking this year I have a question... isn't the rotary club an NPO? If so you CANNOT charge a fee at the door (SO TO SPEAK) you can only suggest a donation An attorney at the event was telling people the collection was illegal. Is that true? Can they not charge a fee? What is being done with the $ that was collected? I heard the last time the rotary ran this event they donated the $ overseas? Do we plan on keeping the money in the township like it was done in previous years when others ran DogFest? This was a hometown event and the money should be kept here. I know a few years ago the Rotary promised money to ARC but failed to give the $ to them. I have seen lots of posts on several sites about how poorly the event was done. No one even maintained the property. This morning is was a mess. So much for obeying the law... Maybe next year the event can be ran by people who aren't related to politicians in the town..last year the event rocked and there were no political ties.

I didn't pay to get in. I didn't even see anywhere where there was admission being charged.
M22 October 08, 2012 at 01:46 AM
The admission was being charged at the table where it said "ADMISSION" it was $6.00 per adult and children were free. The table was right after your crossed the road. They were the only 2 tables that were face to face and you walked in between them to get in.

Maybe they had left by the time I got there (around 1:30 or 2). I had parked at the top of the hill & walked down the grass, not in the road. I would've paid, just didn't see any admission tables. I agree with the previous post that the monies should stay "local" though. Thanks for letting me know, guess & contribute ($12.00) to the animal shelter as I don't want to think I was trying to "Get Over" on a good cause.
can't say who October 08, 2012 at 09:08 AM
Jim, If you want to be so negative, please get your facts straight. Almost all you said was wrong – tables not at that price – politics (other than yours) not involved – ARC was never to get most money – you said “I heard the last time the rotary ran this event they donated the $ overseas?” – what were you smoking or drinking, You also have delusions of fact when you said “I have seen lots of posts on several sites about how poorly the event was done.” What other posts. Maybe your facebook post to yourself. Please get the facts correct and not make this a one man crusade to dishonor a great organization and event that distributes THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to local charities each and EVERY year. Nuf said.

Photos of 2012 Dogfest : Link: http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/dogs_windward_beach_dogfest_2012 I did not see anyone charging admission either. What was the cost for a table? Just curious as I may consider it next year ...
