Brick 'Stocking Stuffer' Effort Will Provide Gifts to 72 Children

Brick Township's Department of Parks and Recreation organized a successful gift drive for families affected by Hurricane Sandy, officials told Brick Patch.

Altogether, donated gifts will be given to 72 township children from 34 families who were displaced by Superstorm Sandy.

The effort began in the days after Sandy struck, when officials recognized there would be long-term repopulation issues in some township neighborhoods, Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis said.

"It was clear that there were a number of families who lost practically everything," said Acropolis. "We wanted to do something to help these children enjoy the holiday season and once again the community really stepped up."

The township recognized businesses and organizations that provided gifts:

• McRoberts Security Co.
• Twin County Soccer
• Ocean County Medical Center
• Homewood Suites (Princeton, N.J.)
• Commvault Co.
• Long Horn Steak House
• MonoSol Rx
• Aetna Insurance

"A bike, scooters, a bed, dolls, games, clothing and so many other items will help put a smile on the faces of these kids," said Acropolis. "These families have been through so much and are still facing many challenges."
