Add Brick Plaza to the list of 'green' buildings in town.
Starting last Friday, the shopping center – most of which is made up of a single building – went solar.
Township officials were on hand to "flip the switch" to the solar system, which will generate about 20 percent of Brick Plaza's total energy usage, according to representatives with Federal Realty Trust, the owner of the shopping center.

Brick is among three sites in New Jersey – the others are shopping centers owned by Federal in Cherry Hill and Lawrenceville – that have had the panels installed.
Though they're largely hidden from public view, a large portion of the roof of Brick Plaza is now "solar blue."

The solar array on top of Brick Plaza makes Brick's downtown area an even greener one. In addition to a solar array mounted at the township municipal complex, the township's planning board approved wind turbines to be installed at a high-end liquor store on Hooper Avenue. The store is still under construction.
