Ash Wednesday Services Planned in Brick

Wednesday, Feb. 13, is Ash Wednesday this year

Ash Wednesday services will take place at several churches in Brick this week.

The tradition, which begins the season of Lent for Christians, dates back to Biblical times. The faithful are marked with black ashes on their foreheads, which symbolizes human mortality and repentance to God.

Visitation Roman Catholic Church
755 Mantoloking Road
Masses: 7 a.m.; 815 a.m.; 7:30 p.m.
Ash Service only: 12 noon; 4 p.m.

St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church
250 Old Squan Road

Masses: 8 a.m., 11 a.m.; 3 p.m.; 7 p.m.
Parishioners are encouraged to come to a palm burning ceremony Tuesday following the 11 a.m. Mass. Palms from last year can be replaced in a receptacle in the church lobby for birning.

Epiphany Roman Catholic Church
615 Thiele Road

Masses: 7 a.m.; 9 a.m.; 12 noon
Ash Service only: 3 p.m.; 4 p.m.; 5 p.m.

Ecumenical Ash Wednesday service with St. Paul's United Methodist Church: 7:30 p.m. at Epiphany.

Brick Presbyterian Church

7 p.m. service

St. Thomas Lutheran Church

St. Padre Pio Roman Catholic Church at Route 35 and 7th Ave. in the township's Normandy Beach section remains closed.
