Religious Rites Have Limits

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued a permit to allow the Northern Arapaho Tribe in Wyoming to kill two Bald Eagles for religious purpose. By that logic, if there were descendants of Aztecs, would we allow them to sacrifice a human because it's part of their religion?

The freedom of someone's religion clearly oversteps its boundaries when it harms someone or something else. Shame on the Fish and Wildlife Service. A proud an arrogant Eagle, the symbol of our nation, must at all times fly high above us denoting protection with force if needed, and a certain quality of peace. We need more Eagles.

Since when is killing 2 birds comparable to human sacrifice?
There ARE descendants of the Aztecs, they are called "Mexicans". You don't have to wonder "IF" there are.

Also.. Arrogant/ definition - "displaying a sense of OVEBEARING self-worth or self-importance"
Why do you feel eagles are arrogant?
Why do you capitalize the word eagle?
Why "must" it fly high above us? (Some sort of govt regulation?)
Why do we "need" more eagles? (They aren't endangered)
Finally... Did you PURPOSELY try to make the second to last sentence the most pretentious/grammatically ponderous sentence EVER written, or did it just work out that way?

Hey BAYBOAT,
You are a PERFECT EXAMPLE of what this world is becoming. I guess, no I know, you are just not worth commenting to. You sure take the First Amendement to the final end and on Memorial Day.I'm sure others are disgusted with you and your false name, a name that protects you from ridicule and hurt.

I didn't realize that commenting on a local blog was taking my free speech rights "to the final end." Its sad to see such an intolerant attitude towards it, ESPECIALLY on Memorial Day!

I think my critique of your (very) error ridden post should be reflected on rather than attacked. There is always room for improvement, and as someone who posts in a public forum I would THINK you'd want to put your best foot forward.

Bald eagles should be protected, even if they're no longer officially endangered. Except to advance the development of wind powered energy, as in the passes of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California, where giant windmills kill numerous eagles, along with bats and other birds. After the way the American Indian was treated throughout American history,I think 2 eagles is a gesture we can deal with.

I'm still waiting on a month dedicated toward the American Indian, after all if we can have a black history month we certainly can have an Amercian Indian history month. What was done to those people far outweighs anything which was ever done to the Africians.

I certainly agree with you on the American Indian, I've been saying this for the last 70 0r so years, however we disagree with killing the American Bald Eagle for whatever matter. An Eagle is a symbol and must be protected, likewise the Christian Cross is something that must be cherished and given respect also. Would you destroy a cross? I'm sure you would not. We need more Eagles.

the American Indians were a very "religious" people in their own beliefs. they respected the life of all animals and "Mother Earth" more than any other people who inhabited this land. while I do not know how each and every tribe hunted and lived,it's my understanding they all had similar love of the land and its creatures.

the eagle "belonged" to them much longer than we have laid claim to it,I have to say this is not something they should be denied. I've heard that many of their traditions have long since the pioneer days have faded, but who are we to say what they should or should not be able to do.

I love, believe and respect the Bald Eagle as a symbol of our nation, but I also believe that the American Indian's have their traditions and religious beliefs which we should not infringe on, it's not like they are popping them out of the air w/birdshot for fun on a saturday night.

Your statement is about one of the dumbest things I've ever read. The eagle is a religious symbol to the first people. I love our symbol but the only eagles to fly over Brick are on flags and TV. I'll bet you love your religious freedom so you pick on Indians..... Is that the best you can do? If Ben Franklin had his way I guess we couldn't eat turkey on Thanks Giving. ( Think the first people helped the pilgrims with that).

Exactly what do you hear from your mind? A brain scan might help to diagnose your problem. Yes this is the best I can do but I'm sure you can do much better if you try ,by doing so, you prove that the turkey seems to be smarter than yourself. We definately need more eagles

BBW, There are in fact magnificeant eagles flying over Brick Twp. Read past newspaper articles. In fact in northern Brick we see them all the time. They have propagated, but since are territorial, their young take off for other areas.

unrelated to eagles... It seems as though the only Religion that doesnt have rights anymore is being Catholic/Christen. We praying to God seems SO Wrong these days, we cant Say Merry Christmas, We have to have " holiday" parties, Dont even think about praying in school Or thanking God during thanksgiving. What really Got me over the edge about this is that my son that is turning 13 ( @ 5'11 155lbs looks to be about 15 or 16) Went to great adventure with the " Fight like hell" t-shirt on. Its for cancer awareness Live strong logo. He had to get" approval before entering the park Bcz it might Offend someone/// HELLO 1st of all it had nothing to do with "Hell" & even if it Did as Christens if ya believe in heaven ya have to believe there is a hell..... Eons? The Bible was first printed in the 1400s. Eons are measured in millions of years. The Bible (at best) has been a best seller for only 600 years or so, just a tiny fraction of an eon.
THIS is what Im talking about! A little more diligence is requiered on your part.

ps Religious belief does NOT equal truth.Just because its in the Bible, doesnt mean its true! Just ask any Jew, Muslim, Buddist, Athiest...well you get the point.

Bottom line, Art is a hate baiting, race baiting and hate mongor. Your racist comments and your hate speech need to be eliminated. You are exactly a poster child for all the bad that Brick has become. You have nothing better to do but sit on a forum and try to bait others to join your hate parade. If you hate Brick so much, why the heck are you still here?

I only pray that when you finally get to that nursing home that some of the people you insulted are left to take care of you. Then, the true definition of KARMA will come full circle. You are a disgusting excuse for a human, and although you are attracting the like to Brick, you should still be ashamed of yourself. I pray to God every night that you pack up and leave not only Brick but New Jersey and go retire in possibly Utah where they share your warped views. maybe you can pick up a few grandmas out there and start your own cult.

Art cannot "prove" that there is a God. ...Militant anti-theist cannot prove that there isn't a God..... Myself, I will believe in God unless and until someone shows me absolute proof that there is no God.

Two simple things to ponder....What came first, the chicken or the egg? How can there be a chicken if it didn't hatch from an egg, and how could there be an egg if there was no chicken to lay it?

How did the universe begin? don't tell me a big bang either. You cannot start a universe from nothing with some mysterious big bang.

Solve these two quandries and you will be closer to proving if there is a God or not.

Just Saying, things need to be proven in order to be true. Ask any scientist or engineer. You're iPhone doesn't just do it's amazing things, just because it can...
I find it interesting that you can dismiss the big bang but can believe an invisible man in the sky created life on earth. There is a reason that the church has to have you in it's clutches before you can rationalize how ridiculous the whole "business" is. If you never heard of religion or a god (no cap G is intentional) at all until you were 35, what would you tell the telemarketer that called you and asked you to come down to the church and donate money so you could have eternal peace? If you want to see if god can answer a prayer for you, try this...chain cinderblocks to both your legs, jump in a deep lake and start praying to live....

Just Saying

5:42 pm on Saturday, June 2, 2012

The big bang is only a theory. What exploded and where did that come from? I never said I believe in an " invisible man in the sky". I think that 99% of ALL religions are phony, but there are many inexplicable mysteries that scientists cannot, and will never be able to explain. Therefore, until someone proves to me absolutely that there is no God, or any kind of supreme being, I will keep the faith.

Just one more thing, I happen to know some people who were penniless, drug addicted alcoholics who first stepped into a church when they were 35 and they HAVE found internal peace. They are now working, married, drug and alcohol free and they will tell anyone who will listen to them that "God" saved them from a living hell on earth. Thats proof enough for me.

That is not proof, that is what us rational atheists call trading in one addiction (drugs) for another addiction, religion. You call them born again christians. So God saved a few of your junkie friends but couldn't keep innocent children from having cancer? For every,"wow! There must be a god because this or that happened",I will give you 10 things that he didn't do. And if you think god can't prevent evil then why call him god, if you think he can prevent evil and chooses not to... well then... He is evil. Read the words of Epicurus, very simple and he sums it all up.

If you believe in Epicurus, why not believe in Jesus? Where are the pictures of Epicurus? . Socrates, Plato, . Where are they buried? Where are their remains? You believe in them but not Jesus? You must be an atheist because you know so little about faith. I never said that God saved my so called junkie friends. Their belief and faith in someone that loves them changed their way of life and gave them hope. They are not in your face born again people. You couldnt tell if they believed in God or not if you met them, and they could care less if you do or not. Why is it that every non believer thinks all believers are nut bag crazies like Jim and Tammy faye Baker or Lunatic Jimmy Swaggart. Most of the true believers keep it to themselves and live a simple peaceful life. When you show me an autographed picture of Epicurus, I will show you one of God.

I do believe in Jesus Christ, however I completely dismiss his claims that he was the son of god. I do agree that history this old is in not concrete and I don't know that Epicurus said what he said, I do agree what has been written about what he allegedly said. The easiest path to "atheist's peace" is to read and fully comprehend that comic book called the bible. the bible was written by humans, do you not understand that? It was written by the first used car salesmen on the planet.... and boy were they good.... RELIGION KILLS

My last post on this....I never mentioned the Bible. I know the Bible was written by man. For me, the Bible is a how to live book, just as I teach my kids that most things in the Bible are true, some are metaphors and some are just plain fiction and superstition. I teach my kids to learn lifes lessons from The Bible, Aesops Fables, and Grimms Fairy Tales. All have very knowledgable lessons and stories to learn from. Our country would be a better place if every school required the reading and study of all three. Ben Franklin and Confucious tell some pretty informative tales also.

Why would you want the bible taught in school? Religion has killed more people than anything on this planet, the only way that would make the world a better place would be if everyone had the same religion. ...and that can't ever be the case because HUMANS have already made too many religions to follow. If 96% of the USA is religious how come there is so much racism? How come one of the big 10 in the bible you speak of says "thou shall not covet thy neighbors man servant"? That sentence says that slavery is ok, but just don't covet"? It's absurd....

You are militant. Why do you have so much hatred for religion and the Bible? Have you ever been inside a church? Every church and chapel I have been in the people and the ministers are the most gentle and peaceful people there are. have you ever seen the difference in politeness and courtesy and manners between catholic school students and public school students? Which one of the Ten Commandments says anything about slaves? I missed that one. I didnt say to force students to live by the Bible, just discuss it. If you read the Bible, which is hard to do because it is written like Shakespere, you would find that it is a book of tales and fables and stories, and parables. I get that, that is why I compare it the Brothers Grimm Fairy tales and Aesopes Fables. I agree with you that religion has screwed up this world in a bad way also, big time, just like politics. Good night militant, have a nice weekend.

Concerning Militant, he's just a complainer and that's the reason I have shut him off. I believe in God just as much as I know there is wind and both cannot be seen. There is proof that both exist by observing the universe which was made by God. WE do know that wind can cause extreem damage or on the other hand it can be beneficial to producing electricity. Who made the wind? It was our creator, Almighty God himself. Don't give him the time to spout off his crazy thoughts, he needs to be BLOWN away. Faith brother, faith. This is the answer.

Not sure why you guys continue to fall for Art's race baiting, and hate baiting articles.

He is an old, angry racist stuck at home with internet access and too much time on his hands. He gets off baiting everyone and then sitting back reading all the interest in his ignorant racist posts.

If you do not reply to him he will eventually go away and hang out at the community center at his old folks home and try to annoy the residents there. The problem Art has is no one at that facility can hear any more, so he comes running to the internet where his ignorant and racist views have a voice.

He is so excited ANYONE actually responds to his rantings that he just continues to voice more ignorant and racist remarks, and why this site allows his race baiting views is another issue. If everyone were to stop patronizing this jackass' articles, he will go away. Trust me, he is looking for attention at his advanced age, and you guys humoring him allow him to feel like he contributes, when he in fact is the reason Brick is the mess it is.

Art, go bother the grandmas in the nursing home and leave us adults be to discuss real issues. Your ignorant posts are getting old, like yourself, and most definitely unwelcome.

HEY BOZO the SHOLTY, did you say "You will check MY spelling?"

Maybe you should look at the tiny paragraph you just wrote idiot. Worry about checking your spelling before you claim to be an authority in that area too jackass.

It may be time to take your pills again, the reason me and most of this forum dislike you is because:

1. You are a RACIST
2. You berate ANYONE who doesn't share your views
3. You harass NEWBIES and keep them from participating
4. Your ignorant VIEWS are yours and yours only, yet you claim others feel the same.

You really are a disgrace and hopefully The Patch comes to their senses and drops you like a bad habit. For the record, I have MANY blogs that I own, and participate in. I would NEVER give you the opportunity to SCORE me. With all the time on your hands you are most likely spamming and berating other bloggers like you do people on this site. I found the best way to get rid of unwanted bugs is to SWAT them and just ignore the itch for a while, eventually it goes away.....just like you BOZO.
