Garbage Dumpers at Brick's Bayside Park

It's a darn shame that local people feel the need to dump their household garbage into the gray cans at Bayview Park.  Just this morning, an individual emptied out the back of his station wagon into the cans.

When I suggested he don't, he said the township should pick up garbage more frequently, and, "don't give me a hard time, lady."  Luckily I have pictures and the plate of his vehicle and the items (including his empty, rusty 5 gallon can of water sealer) he left behind.

I enjoy coming every day to this park and enjoy the water and sunsets.  People like him ruin it for the rest of us. :(

Sounds like he was cleaning out his garage of material that should have been disposed of at the recycling facility.
What a d-bag.

There are many people who dump their household garbage at the Bay Beach gazebo area. Even if some are removed as the season winds down, they leave bags next to the remaining cans. I really feel for the lifeguards who have to bring the cans to the curb at 35 south. ewwww

yes when the police see them dumping. I also see public works opening bags to see if there is any identification inside, i.e, envelopes with addresses inside. But, anyway, why should there be any dumping at all?

Hey Betty would you rather they dumped it in the woods? This is such a non-issue.

@ so much: What a silly response.... "dump in the woods?" why don't people keep their garbage in their own cans...

@ so much. Agreeing with Betty...silly response. Do you dump your trash inappropriately? Personal trash should not be dumped in a town park. Get a second can if need be. Not to mention, he was rude...probably because he got caught doing something wrong and was called on it.

To so much to say (another Bricktucky resident) that is some great advice but before you give out anymore of your ill concived advice, did you know that the beach area gets a sanitation and recycling truck sent to brick beach one every saturday during the summer months for that reason or for $50.00,I think, you can purchase another pail and lastly you can call the Dept. of Public Works and they will come to your house for a additional pick-up. Or give them your address and let them dump on your lawn.

Dear Picky:
Yes, he emptied his trunk. Was I supposed to count the amount that was in his trunk? NO. He actually full sized gray cans with his garbage, as well as a 5 gallon rusty can of driveway sealer and an empty gas can.

Dear So Much to Say: I am very surprised that Dan Nee has let your comments get so out of hand. I am not stupid, nor do I call any person stupid. I was not making a nonissue (guess you didn't realize that "non" words are not hyphinated) an issue with my original posting.

Thank you everyone else for your support. This gentleman should not have used a Brick park for dumping any household garbage, especially items that he would would have to pick up the phone to call Public Works to get. Again Dan, can't people have a simple dialogue on any subject here anymore? Take care, BA

A few comments that violate Patch policies were deleted.

On another note, this is one of the rare times I'll offer an opinion on something: It is absolutely unacceptable to place household waste (especially large amounts of it) in a park receptacle. Next thing you know, the cans will be overflowing and there will be garbage surrounding the park entrance. And that's not to mention the fact that this is a bayfront park where it's breezy, doubtlessly sending the overflowing trash flying all over the place, through the park, into the bay and onto local residents' properties.

This isn't a political issue. It's a common sense issue.

Betty-As a Brick resident, I'd like to offer my thanks to you for being brave enough to confront this guy. My hunch is that he is not a Brick resident, but someone disposing of household and possibly hazardous waste illegally in the receptacles at the Bayfront Park.
In addition, I believe that Public Works has a Route 35 location for Brick residents (i.e., taxpayers) to bring any excess garbage during the summer months. If this guy cannot afford an additional can than this is another option over "dumping in the woods."

@ Bertha and Reality: I respectfully offer opinions to comments on this site. Yes, ANY Brick resident can bring their garbage to the lot where the police substation is located and bring excess garbage, furniture, and just about anything including grills. They will take it all. My opinion still stands that any township park's garbage cans should be used for the disposed garbage by its users. Not for those who are too lazy to either hold their garbage until their weeky pickup, or if there is overlow, utilize the Brick services from Memorial Day until mid September on Saturdays 8-2. Thank you again for your support.....both of you. :)

@ brick NJ mom: I'm sure you took the time to read Dan Nee's comments prior to writing your own. To clarify, I was walking my dog in the parking lot when this occurred. I AM allowed to do that. However, I was not standing there waiting for this event to happen;. It would be sad that I nor anyone else would not be looking at my surroundings as I walk. I did not stop, stand and watch what he was doing. But, when I did observe his actions, yes, I did tell him he couldn't (if you took the time to ready my original comment). When someone empties an entire back of an old station wagon, and it filled 2 large sized gray cans; yeah, I guess someone will take notice. Thank you Dan for your clariification. I hope the naysayers will read your comment prior to adding more negativity to any person's comments on this site. Take care.

BAF, I think I would have done the same thing as you. I have two garbage cans, I bought one. It solved the problem of gargage overload and I go to the dumps. There is no excuse for it.

Sorry for the word gargage, s/b garbage.

one other side note about a second can: In this area where streets are sand not blacktop, where overhead lines are lower than normal, we do not use gray twp garbage cans unless we live on the highway. The automatic trucks do not pick up garbage in these areas. So, homeowners use their own cans, and a Brick "pup truck" comes with a driver to pick up the garbage. The public works employees are courteous, and take all the garbage. Just thought I'd clarify the 2nd can option. At least 118 homeowners on the barrier island of Brick can not use that opportunity.

If you use your own can, you are only allowed one? What about the dumps?

@ Darrell... they are NOT provided any can on the narrow streets with low hanging wires. We have to use our own cans. Like I said above, the automated trucks do not come up those streets for those reasons. If you live on the "right" side of either 35 north or south, then the automated trucks are used. If you live on the "left" side of either 35 north or south on the island, the regular truck comes and the public works employees drag the cans to the back of the trucks to empty.

@ Darrell, if you question was if we use our own cans, must it be just one? The answer is no.. We are allowed to have several of our own cans that the smaller trucks with the DPW employees pick up. So, going back to my original statment in the beginning, I don't believe the individual was from this particular community when they emptied their station wagon. Hope that helps. :)
