Woman Pleads Guilty In Mother's Death

Lisa Foster of Lakewood made the plea before Judge Wendel E. Daniels Tuesday, saying she was responsible for the death of her mother, Claudette

A 46-year-old Lakewood woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to second degree manslaughter in connection with the death of her 67-year-old mother.

Lisa Foster made the plea before Judge Wendel E. Daniels, saying she was responsible for the death of her mother, Claudette, a resident of the Original Leisure Village in Lakewood.

Lisa Foster faces a potential jail term of up to 10 years. The actual term imposed in this case will be determined by Daniels when he imposes sentence on Feb 28, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation began on March 1, 2012 when the Lakewood Township Police Department received a call from a third party reporting that a woman might be dead in the Foster home, according to the prosecutor's office.

Police later confirmed that the anonymous source was Foster. Lakewood Police responded to the home and found Claudette Foster’s body.

Investigators determined that Foster had been dead inside the home for a substantial period of time, perhaps as long as a month. The defendant and the victim lived together at the residence.

While police were investigating the scene, Lisa Foster arrived; she was questioned and later taken into police custody, according to the prosecutor's office.

“Our investigation found that the mother and daughter had a contentious relationship, and often argued over finances," according to the prosecutor's office. "At some time during February of 2012, an argument between them in the bedroom of the victim escalated into a physical confrontation in which the defendant pushed the victim, causing her to fall and to strike her head on a metal bed frame. Mrs. Foster lost consciousness and later died, although the exact date and time of death cannot be accurately determined."

An autopsy performed by the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office found that the cause of death was arteriosclerotic coronary vascular disease and blunt force trauma.

Cammi, I am so with you on this one. It's crazy. I also just read in another news paper that a couple are getting the same sentence for killing their 11 month old by putting heroin on his gums. They do make medications for teething. And this is what is wrong with our society.

Disregard for "life" is so pervasive now in our culture---due to many things: too much humanistic philosophy, media/cinema, and ....yes, abortion as birth control method.

Plea bargains, while not always palatable and certainly never agreeable to everyone, serve a real purpose in our legal system. It's not necessarily a matter of not wasting the courts time.

That's why there is so much violence out there...there are no consequences!!! You get more jail time for doing drugs than you do for murder.

Not to sound like I'm taking sides but playing the devils advocate, she did push her mother I'm sure not meaning to "kill" her, she hits her head. I'm thinking the woman paniced like many would in the state of mind she was in and by the time she realized her mother was dead didn't know what to do with the situation. This was not a woman in her right mind. Have a little compassion...you all don't know the circumstances. And yes its still a life she took!

Why are you shocked? Millions of babies are murdered every year in this country and the liberals think that is fine, ITS CALLED ABORTION. We are on the decline like the old Roman Empire!!!

Hey...Paul, if you are on his side or not, is entitled to his opinion and religious beliefs. And voiceofreason, what harm are those people doing to you by standing up for what they believe in and protesting outside the doc's office?! YOU need to get a life, perhaps. Oh, by the way, I believe that abortion is a woman's choice.

Abortion isn't murder? Then what do you call late term abortions where the baby is alive and the Dr strangles or shoves a sharp tool into its brain? It's legal but it is murder when you have a perfectly viable fetus or baby that gets destroyed for no other reason than it being inconvenient. I don't know what books you have read that made you believe otherwise.

LOL - ok thats a little dramatic and something like that should NOT be legal. If it is - thats a whole different issue. So if a HIV ridden, IV drug using man rapes your 15 year old daughter and got her pregnant, you'd be happy she was pregnant and celebrate that life? and look that child in the eyes knowing the "father" of said child physically harmed YOUR child? Rethink your comment Cindy.

Plea bargains are not based on the crimes, they are offered to nearly EVERY case because it closes the case quickly and "saves taxpayers money" stopping there from being a full blown trial by jury, in exchange for a more lenient sentence. We live in a kinder gentler society because people are willing to give up so much and let the government rule their lives... Bring back the death penalty and USE IT in my opinion, maybe not in this case tho. The guidelines for death penalty have to show intend to kill and an arguement that resulted in a fight, a shove and an unintentional killing is not murder 1... its a shame that this mother died at the hands of her own child tho.
