I wonder why the police made contact with them, was it simply for walking?
I am pro police however it makes you wonder how walking in a location no one normally walks allows the police to stop you (and one could debate, how it is judged that no one normally walks there)....Is this not the land of the free?

Ironic how these types of police encounters are tolerated however if you ask a person if they are a US citizen all hell breaks loose......

its called "profiling" its only a outrage if its a minority ... although I have to say a thirty something without a SUV in Wall is a minority LOL

They were crossing the road on foot where they should not have been walking. Husband and wife matching bail bonds for this duo.

They probably just didn't look right to the cop. He obviously had a good eye and knows what to look for. Kudos to him. That's what we pay them to do. The cops keep these folks out of our neighberhoods, we just don't realize it. Do your job, let them do theirs, and shut up. You folks are clueless.

He must have had a reason to stop them. They probably looked high as kites or were otherwise visually suspicious. Good for him for doing his job and to the people on here who are throwing the constitution into the mix.....I have no problem if a cop stops me any given day, because I am not breaking the law. I'd rather them stop suspicious people and check into it....no harm done if they checked out ok and went on their way.

you all missed the major fact here - it took place at 11:49 PM. You have two people in a place people are not normally there and then its at 1149 at night. put the facts together and its a suspicious condition that needs to be followed up by the officer. If they were walking around your neighborhood at that time of night I guess you would want the police to stop them and check them out.

perhaps this article is not written with all the facts. Either way it was a good stop by the cop. Now only if we could get Hollowman to not be afraid of doing the same thing in Sawmill then maybe Brick can start to clean things up.

I agree WMS826 we need a few of these motivated policemen patrolling Sawmill. I see numerous suspicious characters walking around in there. I wonder what they would find if stopped? They can start with the one who walks around in there wearing gang members Bloods red. God I hope the cops realize thats why he wears red.

Well glad I don't live in wall, I look a little crazy walking my dog sometimes at the crack of dawn.... I'd be suspicious of me the way I look. I guess I'll have to make sure I have full makeup & hair done & " look" right if i'm ever out after midnight

As far as in what way are the police allowed to stop someone they deem suspicious there are a few scenarios.. According to established case law by the US Supreme Court Cady v. Dombrowski police can perform a community care-taking function in which they are not actively investigating any criminal activity for example: Two people are walking down the side of the roadway where there are no business' and no residential area. It is reasonable to believe they may be in need of assistance due to a disabled motor vehicle, giving the officer reason to check on their well being. Another case law is Ohio V Terry, which states police can detain someone if they reasonably believe a person has or is about to commit a crime. If the arresting officer was first performing a community care-taking function, to simply check on the well being of two pedestrians in an unpopulated area with no residences or business, something he claims is unusual, and then one of those pedestrians flee's on foot as he arrives that would elevate it to a Terry Stop, giving the officer reason to further question their identities and discover the two outstanding warrants.

It is not illeagal for a police office to walk up to someone and talk to them. If someone was standing on the corner of Sawmill and a brave police officer, if we have any brave enough to enter there alone, stopped and asked them questions there is nothing wrong in doing so. Nothing wrong with this as long as the person is free to leave. I have on many occasions questioned people in this circumstance and have found other criminal wrong doing. This is their choice to stay and answer your questions, once they cannot leave the game changes. Asking them their name and what they are doing here is not detaining them.

We need motivated policemen out there who will stop and ask people standing on the corner of a known drug area what are you doing here. If there is no good reason then stand next to them until they leave. Perhaps you belong more in a classroom, those who can't do, teach it is often said.

So..we caused this much drama. Let me clarify. Dropped offs enterprise car rental at 8:40pm and crossed at 70 and 35. Officer rolled up and did tell. LLC us couldn't be walking that highway.WORD? Only due to a missed court date warrants issued..not a couple of degenerates. Though. Had much to do following day. By the time all said and done was almost midnight. Explanation. Cause his? ?
