Two Brick Residents Arrested for Armed Robbery

19-year-old man and juvenile in custody

Brick Police have arrested two township residents for the early Friday morning armed robbery of a Sawmill Road resident, police said.

Ansel Applewhite, 19, of Sawmill Road, and a 17-year-old male juvenile, of Primrose Lane, were arrested Friday evening for robbing a Sawmill Road resident at gunpoint, according to Capt. John Rein. Police say the pair got away with $140 in the robbery, which occurred at 2 a.m. Friday morning.

A victim, whose name was not released, was assaulted during the incident and was treated and released from Ocean Medical Center. The robbers fled the scene after the assault, Rein said.

The pair was arrested when, around 3:30 p.m. Friday, Patrolmen Patrick Mulcahey, John Pawlowicz and Brian Ulman responded to Sawmill Road for a suspicious persons call. There they encountered Applewhite and the juvenile who were found in possession of drugs and handgun ammunition, Rein said. Brick Police detectives and members of the Brick Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) executed search warrants late Friday evening at the residences of the two suspects. After the search, robbery charges were added to the original drug and ammunition charges.

Police have not yet found the handgun used in the robbery, Rein said.

Applewhite was transported to the Ocean Count Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. The juvenile was remanded to the Ocean County Juvenile Detention facility.

Brick Police detectives Robert Shepherd and Gregory Mullarkey are leading the investigation.

it's a shame the citizens' right to bear arms has been infringed upon so greatly and cannot carry firearms for their own personal protection.

Don't always condemn that neighborhood please. There are many good, hardworking people who live there and they are not the cause of all these problems. I know several good folks who have lived there a long time. It's not THEIR fault that some bad apples rolled in.

yeah, okay

clamdigger - where does it say the homeowner didn't have a gun? Also, they can own a gun if they choose to. Maybe they don't. Not getting your point at all. It has nothing to do with the article.

Tip of the Iceberg. Very simple,no jobs more crime. Big corporations are swimming in their profits and not hiring people. Corporations are now equivalent to people thanks to the conservative leaning Supreme Court 5-4 ruling in favor of Citizens United on 1/21/10. They can now contribute big sums of money to their Republican politician puppets. Again, historically high corporate profits,no jobs, more crime.
I agree that this particular incident can be blamed on the parents, our society,or the individuals. How many more will have the opportunity to become just like them if we don't start using our heads.
It's time to put American citizens back to work, kick out the tea baggers, elect politicions(from either party)who are for people and not just corporations or themselves. We need new infrastructure NOW and let people have PRIDE in the jobs they do by creating demand again in the marketplace.

this is why this town and others are going down hill, blame blame blame everyone else, never take responsiblity. We need governerment to take from one group that actually works and give it to the other group that likes to sit on their couch and collect unemployment rather then looking for a job,it's proven they won't even look till all benefits run out, so why would anyone want to work, when they can just live off people who do work. Nice gig if you can do it,,,, and this spread the wealth mind set will bring down a country of hard working people who use to have a dream, that our parents gave us to work hard and take care of yourself and your family and maybe you might be rich someday. But the way this adminastration wants things is no one will be rich everyone will be poor and we will all need to live off the government, which doesn't really have money it takes money from all to put in their pot and will tell us eventually what to eat, what do buy how long we will be allowed to live, how about we throw all those losers out and hire people that believe I the citizen can think for myself and I can choose for myself and I can do what I like.

Wow Gene!!! You have some serious hatred and bigotry in your heart. How in the world can you blame the Tea Party for an armed robbery here in Brick? The movement is only 2 years old and in no way contributed to these two people robbing someone.

The myth with the Right too Bear Arms in the State of New Jersey is deeply flawed and the lawmakers need too make some changes. Hunting, target shooting and collecting is the only right honest law abiding citizens have with firearms in New Jersey.

IF you are in your home and the bad guy enters AND you are in fear of death or serious bodily injury (and that burden of proof is on you for that) ONLY ... you are not allowed too use deadly force IF you have an avenue of retreat to another area of the house to get away or out a door etc. IF you are unable to retreat ... then and only then YOU are allowed to use deadly force by the NJ law and be justified. However, you may be covered by the law ... BUT open for "Civil Liability".

States like Florida and Pennsylvania have enacted laws that protect the law abiding citizen not only in their homes, but while out and about and with their family and friends that are with them AND against civil liability.

I have lived in Brick for over 35 years. I use to be very proud to tell people that we were the #1 safest town out of all the USA to live in. We were number 1 for a couple of years in a row. What happen to our town? Where did it go? Who would ever think that Brick would have the guns, drugs, and gangs that we have. We no longer have a safe haven living in Brick and it breaks my heart. Time is not always good for many cities and towns and become over grown towns like Brick has become as a "cities". Look at cities like Elizabeth and Newark that were basically safe cities prior to 1970 to live in and walk the streets safe. They were destroyed from within ... hopefully Brick will not follow in the next 20-30 years ??
