A 15-year-old boy was struck by a car while walking alongside Herbertsville Road on Thursday, and police are asking the public for help in locating the driver.
The teenager was walking in the northbound lane of Herbertsville Road just north of Maple Avenue when, at one point, he entered a lane of traffic to retrieve a drink bottle. A vehicle in the northbound lane then struck him near the shoulder line, according to a police report.
Brick Township Police EMS and MONOC paramedics responded along with police officers and transported the boy to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment of injuries to his arm and head.
Officer Jeff Lindquist and Sgt. David Bedrosian of the Brick Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash is requested to contact the Brick Township Police Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140.

When ever I see kids on the side of the road I slow down. I don't care if I'm on RT 70 or a neighborhood road, you never know what a kid may do. Drivers behind me get upset, I don't care. The other day I saw two teens run from the Ice Palace parking lot, cross Chambersbridge until they came to the median where they hung out and then ran again. I wondered to myself, don't they know what has happened on this road? Kids don't think, I know this, so if your behind me and I see kids and I slow down, don't bother giving me the finger or the horn cause I really don't care and it won't make me speed up either.

I agree with you 100% Joseph. I am one of those people too. One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing people drive fast through our neighborhoods and roll through stop signs. In my neighborhood, like so many others, is loaded with children. I live on a corner and constantly watch people zipping down the road well over the 25mph speed limit as well as roll through the stop sign at our T Intersection. My blood boils whenever I see this. Many people, like myself, have indoor/outdoor cats as pets. I have seen way too many lost because some idiot is in a hurry to shave 15 seconds off their time to get to their house. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to be speeding through neighborhoods, going over the speed limits in town, tailgating people because you think they are not going fast enough and the list goes on and on....

I'm all for slowing down in neighborhoods, even going below posted speed limits on our narrow residential streets when kids are out and about. However, Doug, the law doesn't allow pets to run loose. Thought all those cats running around were feral cats and were free game :)

Given the number of drivers who ignore red lights and stop signs in town, i'm surprised we don't have more serious and fatal accidents. Alot of drivers ignore posted 25mph speed zones in neighborhoods. On my street, the 25mph is clearly posted in 2 places and some on our street FLY up and down the block at 50mph or greater and just don't care. At one point traffic safety even had set up a patrol car and speed trap at the end of the street briefly a couple of yrs. ago. But it still goes on.
