'StangsGiving A Hit in Brick

Nearly $10,000 raised for Brick families

In 2012, before there was Thanksgiving, there was 'StangsGiving.

The dinner held at Brick Memorial High School Tuesday night raised more than $9,000 specifically for Brick families in need after Superstorm Sandy.

One of the organizers, Nicole Pannucci-Cogill, a teacher, said 475 people came to the dinner, generating the donations.

"We are still seeking donations in order to hit the $10,000 dollar mark," Pannucci-Cogill said Wednesday. "It was a great night to be a Mustang, a great night to be a Dragon, and it was a great night for Brick!"

The money raised from the event will be donated specifically to Brick Township families in need following Sandy.

Being a former faculty member of the Stangs, I know most of the people who put this together. They have been involved in many other charitable events over the years that did not get as much publicity as this one. There are too many to name but the Mustang Family rounds up the wagons when there is a crisis. They get it done! I'm proud to call myself a "Stang".

I do not know. There are some issues as to who has what say over the use of the building. The Town Council and the Police have to come to some sort of agreement. I do know there are still many people who need the food and temporary warmth that they are getting at the PAL building. If they move I believe it would be to the Pioneer Fire House further down on Drum Point. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and these issues will be resolved. D

It's Friday morning and I was at the PAL building about an hour ago. The situation is in limbo right now. There is a powwow going on right now as to a resolution for this situation.
