Second Victim of Cherry Quay Crash Succumbs to Injuries
Death of Steven M. Wilson, 21, brings township's auto death toll to 6 in 2012, double 2011's number
The passenger in a vehicle involved in a Nov. 24 crash on Cherry Quay Road died early Tuesday morning at a local hospital, officials said.
Brick resident Steven M. Wilson, 21, was a passenger in the 2009 Infiniti G37 being driven by Waleed M. Emara, 23, who died at Jersey University Medical Center, Neptune, the day after the accident. Wilson died just after 2 a.m. Tuesday at the same hospital.
Wilson had been listed in critical condition there since the accident occurred, officials said.
Though the investigation into the crash is continuing, Brick Police Sgt. David Bedrosian said Tuesday that excessive speed and the fact that the occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seat belts "played a significant factor in the extent of their injuries."
An investigation has showed that, after negotiating a curved portion of the roadway, the Infiniti crossed the double-yellow line and continued north in the southbound lane of travel.
In the area of 304 Cherry Quay Road, the driver lost control and subsequently left the roadway, striking a utility pole located on the west side. The vehicle then rolled several times before striking a parked pickup truck.
Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle and thrown approximately 25 feet north, Bedrosian said.
Witnesses told police they saw the Inifiniti pass them on the opposite side of the road at a high rate of speed. When they caught up to the Infiniti, it had already crashed. The witnesses rendered aid to the victims and called the police, Bedrosian said.
Officer Jay Lampiasi and Bedrosian, of the police department’s Traffic Safety Unit, are continuing the investigation into the contributing factors of the crash. Anyone with information surrounding the crash is being asked to contact the unit at 732-262-1140.
"This tragic double-fatal crash brings the total number of fatalities in the township this year to six," said Bedrosian. "The number of fatalities this year has doubled from last year’s total of three in 2011."
With the holiday season fast approaching, drivers are reminded to be cautious when traveling the roadways, Bedrosian said, reminding drivers to buckle their safety belts.
The Brick Township Police Department will be adding supplemental holiday patrols over the coming weeks to enforce all serious traffic violations, Bedrosian said.

Agreed, more traffic enforcement by patrol officers will result in this as well as drug arrests, warrant arrests, and a message to scum to stay out of the area.
Sorry for the loss of this young man.

Steve...you will be missed more than you could ever imagine you would be if you were here with us. You were a special kid...a terrific friend to so many including my Tyler. You were an EXTRA son to me....my heart aches severely now that you are gone. You put up a good fight and hung in there as long as you could. Your candle vigil was amazing tonight . The street and property were lined with so many of your friends it just showed how loved you really were and still are. Your irresistible smile and charm will never be forgotten. You brought much joy through my house over the years. Seeing you a few days prior to this horrid tragedy will always be held dear to my heart that i got to see and hug you...not knowing it was the last time you'd be okay...as we aren't promised tomorrow. You will always be in my heart. love mama rowe

Always wear your seatbelts and lock your doors. Always. At least you will be safe inside your car and the air bags can do what they are designed to do. RIP boys. My heart aches for your families.

Young men will drive fast. Regardless of traffic enforcement. . . . it is a part of being young. It is unfortunate they were not spared by some stroke of luck. I can't even imagine the state of mind of their parents.

This is so sad. The loss of two young men, who seem like they were kind, wonderful people. Please! Don't speed, wear seatbelts and grow old. No family should have to endure this pain. RIP.

This young man makes the 6th traffic accident fatality of 2012 as opposed to the 3 fatalities of 2011. I hope we are not going to be seeing an escalating trend of more accident fatalities yearly due to the irresponsibility of certain drivers. Motor vehicles are not toys and the public roads are not a private playgrounds. Let's hope we don't have to read many of these stories in the months to come.
