Aztec Motel was reported as lost that I read when the storm ended.

My prayers for everyone who has lost so much of their lives/possessions/property in this terrible storm. Other than that, I hope all of the crappy motels are gone and they can rebuild with a little more class.

I agree Nancy. I spent so much time growing up and going to Seaside in the summers. But then the town really went down hill so no more visits or vacations there.

Here's our chance to allow mother nature to reclaim the barrier island... especially the parts of the island that are less than a mile wide (and that might be all of it, I don't know). IMO residents who are being compensated through insurance/flood insurance and/or any other way should take their $$ and rebuild on the mainland somewhere.
Might be best if the barrier island was left to huge Hotel and or Casino conglomerates that can afford to build resort hotels and summer attractions, toward the bay side, to bring in the $$ for each barrier island town, while leaving the ocean side beaches as just that- beautiful, wide, public access beaches, like in California and other areas. It can be done....

i for one don't want to pay for a beach replenishment and than not be able to use it. if those rich people want a private beach they should pay for replenishment themselves. after all, isn't it their claim that its private property.

if everyone had access to a free beach you wouldn't have to complain about how much you pay. the beach should be for everyones enjoyment, not just a privleged few.

I know a town where the lifeguards were paid even when the beach was closed due to poor water quality. And the beach passes turned into a waste to buy. Badge checkers still were paid even with the red flag up. Yeah they were paid and the town paid them <i>and</i> the insurance. So lets just not put the cart before the horse and clean it up first and then worry about who pays for what. jmo
