New Brick Restaurant Promises Hot Wings and Hot Cars

First restaurant of its kind in NJ to open its doors Oct. 10

There’s a new chain restaurant opening in Brick on Chambers Bridge Road, but what sets it apart from all the other restaurants in the area? For starters, it looks like a garage and it has an actual used NASCAR racecar on the roof.

Quaker Steak & Lube, known for its "best wings USA" signature sauce, will open its doors to the public Oct. 10. Its location will be the former Chevy's Fresh Mex site in Brick Plaza.

The restaurant will feature over 20 wing sauces, burgers, steaks, pastas and salads. The wings are a big part of the appeal, but the restaurant prides itself on becoming a part of the community, General Manager Samuel Tecchio said.

“When you come into the restaurant, you’re coming into an experience. We want this to be a place where everybody knows who you are,” Tecchio said.

In the center of the main dining room, known as Thunder Alley, a lift has been placed with a fully functional 1928 Bucket-T Convertible on it. The car is owned by Dennis Bohanan of Old Bridge, but locals may have the chance to show off their own hot ride in the restaurant at some point.

“About three or four times a year, we are going to change the car that is on the lift in Thunder Alley with another classic muscle car. We want to create a neighborhood feel, where you can come in and tell people ‘Yes, that is my car on the lift this month.’” Tecchio said. “We have been going out to classic car shows and advertising to enthusiasts that they can show off their car in a safe location right here in our dining room.”

Along with the Bucket-T, Quaker Steak also features a fully functional spinning Harley Davidson above the entrance, an upside-down 1984 Corvette in the side café, as well as a 2012 Chevy Camaro RS on the lift above the outside dining area.

“The Harley was put on display by Harley Davidson of Ocean County, and is for sale. The Camaro out front was put on display by Pine Belt Chevy and is also for sale,” Tecchio said.

As one looks around the restaurant, one can feel the embodiment of garages all across the nation: parts of racecars grace one wall, a map of the United States made out of license plates from each state make up another.

Quaker Steak is something New Jersey has not seen before. The Brick location will be the Garden State's first.

“We are very excited to be here after seeing the appeal this restaurant has out in Ohio and Pennsylvania,” Tecchio said.

According to Tecchio, Quaker Steak & Lube has its "Best Wings USA" in the title of the restaurant after winning the title in 1988.

“We took home 'Best Overall Wings USA' in 1988 without traditional ‘Golden Garlic’ at the National Chicken Out in Cleveland, Ohio,” he said.

The restaurant has a fun, laid-back atmosphere, from the bright colors and toolbox-style host stand, to the 40 televisions hanging in the restaurant. The TVs are on spindles, so no matter where a customer sits in the restaurant he or she will have a view of one.

“We like to have fun and want to share that with our guests. They get curly straws with their drinks, a Twizzler and a “wing wag” (a hot towel) when they leave.”

One feature Quaker Steak has, that no other restaurant in the area has, is an outdoor bar.

“We have an outside seating area, along with a full bar that is an awesome feature for Brick because no one else has it,” Tecchio said.

Quaker Steak created the position Marketing Activities Coordinator for Tonia Porter for one reason: community involvement.

“For our very first VIP night, we will be collecting donations for the Ashley Lauren Foundation, a charity collecting money for families who have young children that are diagnosed with pediatric cancer,” Porter said.

Along with the VIP night, details are being finalized for fundraiser nights, where organizations can come in for a night of dining and have a portion of the proceeds donated.

“We will be discussing the final details of the fundraiser program next week,” Porter said.

Kitchen Manager TJ Heline said he is excited to start cooking and serving the menu items.

“We use fresh wings, never frozen. We have a refrigerator designated for just wings kept near the fryer so wings can be cooked right away,” Heline said.

The restaurant has started to incorporate healthy food options for diners who are watching what they eat.

“We have nice big steak burgers, and we can substitute out the beef for a piece of grilled chicken if the guest wants,” Heline said.

Quaker Steak will have daily specials on food and drinks, including a weekday happy hour, as well as football specials on Sundays and “Rutgers Saturdays” with giveaways.

O K great another restaurant, the place is a eye sour already, Didnt Buffalo wild wings just open? Does Brick really need another restaurant?
live in Brick, have 4 teenage kids & not one of us have really any intrest of going.
Why not put something in our town thats useful? like something in the WOW lots ( a I play ameica would be fun or even a roller ring?) I bet MO would rather see the kids exercising then eating wings. what about the foodtown lot? how long is that going to look like it does? how about a indoor water park geared for our local kids?
I dont know what happen w/ Chevy's but it always looked busy & it was nice to have something diffrent to choose from around here.

the Chevy's chain went bankrupt and the owners of this site purchased a new franchise. Be glad that something new opened and that there are jobs really being created instead of having the building sit there empty

To pink mouth - the town does nothing to evade the hee haw image as exhibited by this recent example. We could use a Trader Joes, a Whole Foods, a decent shoe store in lieu of Marty's twenty year old dried up recycled shoes what does this town do? - a copycat of what is across the road. agree those wings are god awful too btw. Prediction - one of the two places will belly up within 24 months.

Don't fall for the organic food crap, for that is what it is. Farmers will tell you there's no such thing as clean organic farming, not anymore. Yes there are farmers that do not use pesticides or steroids but it doesn't matter. Chemicals from factories, cars and other pollutants go up into the atmosphere and come back to earth in the rain and are put right into the soil, our water no matter where in the USA, is contaminated with all kinds of pollutants, the worst being old pharmaceuticals that have leach into the water supply from people throwing their old pills down the sink or toilet. All this is absorbed into the plants and animals which is adsorbed by us. There is no such thing as "safe" food anymore, just safer and it's not that much "safer" to pay through the nose for. Whole Foods and places like it are a joke.

If you've never been to Mastro's than you have no clue what I'm talking about. Mastro's has probably the finest food available in the United States or Europe!

And new strip malls. They can't even fill the empty ones around town.
Buffalo wild wings is Horrible.Went there once and it will be the last.Wings were cold inside.Gross!
You want good wings go to The Westside in Point Pleasant.
And we wait for the Old Denny's to turn into Roy Rodgers. And Arby's closed down by Fridays.

I think it's exactly what brick needs, a fresh new look at a family restaurant and for the record just cause the lube has wings doesnt mean that it's the same as buffalo wild wings... Try to be open minded and I think we all should remember that the lube is also giving lots of people a job!!!! And I'm sure we can all agree that is something we all need more of!!!

for those saying "why not get this or that" instead of a restaurant... ever done anything besides complain? Call or email the owners of iPlay & tell them about the GREAT location you know about - maybe they'll check it out. But just complaining here doesn't do anything to fix the problem.

Personally I'm more of a fan of local owned restaurants vs. chains, but I'm sure we'll check this place out eventually. Tried BWW and the waitress padded her tip, won't be back - plus the wings were not all that.

My husband wrote $13 on the CC receipt, she changed it to $18, which could be understandable, except it changed the total which was very obvious. When brought to the managers attention (through corporate a few days later) they made up for it by refunding us the $5 and giving us "5 wings" coupons. No thanks - won't be back.

Yet another example how the Acropolis machine is hell bent on destroying this town. A wing place right across the street from another HUGE wing place. This on the heels of that big orange box they threw up destroying Brick plaza. This mayor and his town planners are a sham and deserve to be tarred and feathered.

I read all these comments (I'm "fairly" new to Brick, 8 years here) and now I understand why Wegmans chose not to come. They do a sampling of people with college degrees in an area to see if it's "their" type of people that would sip in a Wegmans. Brick failed. They could have saved the money and read the illiterate comments posted here! Why would you people want another empty building like WOW and make this a desolate wasteland????? It's not ANOTHER restaurant, it's replacing one that was there already- so it's actually 1:1. Wheels of progress people!!! Next one of your old favorite haunts sells out to a chain, like Red Lion to Walgreens or whoever bought it, bitch to the owner- not the guy smart enough to buy the land.

Should they move Longhorns to Texas since there aren't any cowboys around Brick? No wonder Wegmans doesn't move down here! The level of thinking is unreal.
