Public Works Open House Set for Sunday

Residents will be able to view heavy equipment up close

Ever wondered what all of that heavy equipment used by the public works department looks like up close? Or what it does, and how?

Public Works employees, as well as the equipment they use every day, will be on display Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the township public works yard on Ridge Road.

According to Councilman Bob Moore, who helped organize the event, representatives from the department will explain their role in town and how they do their jobs, while providing an up-close look at the equipment they use to do it.

Moore said residents will also get to see the condition some of the equipment is in, adding that some pieces are stretched to their limits.

The public works yard is located beside the township recycling center, 836 Ridge Road, just after the turn from Sally Ike Road.

These guys are decent folks trying to make a living and support their families.

It's a shame some folks think so little of them,

Response to Ocean County:

I agree completely. Many town workers are barely getting by on the salary they make, yet we are quick to jump on them whenever the issue of taxes come up. The problem is much bigger than this. Health care costs are out of control. In my opinion, this is due to the fact we are subsidizing the health care of the 50% of people living in America who do not pay for health care, or any taxes for that matter. All you really have to do is drive around and see who is pushing a double stroller with a bun in the oven.

"Moore said equipment stretched to the limits". Here comes some more bonding and borrowing to buy new equipment.

Despite a staunch preventative maintenance program and proper upkeep , equipment will inevitably wear out. If the resources have not been replenished on a proper replacement schedule,we may have to invest in equipment to ensure D.P.W. can continue to provide our services in a safe and efficient manner.

How much OVERTIME will be payed for the display of equipment?

Maybe the Street Sweepers can be shown on our Township streets - this could be done Monday thru Friday during regular work hours.

I've been around trucks and heavy equipment before I even learned to walk. My dad worked with DPW up north for 35 years before he was disabled. I worked with the Sewerage Authority for a bit before starting my own business. As a "truck and equipment gearhead" I would love to take a tour and check out the equipment. I hope there will be more open houses. Sundays can be extremely hectic. I would love to be there. I can smell the diesel!!

why can't they just put signs on the side of the trucks and other machines telling us what they are and what they do ..so when or if we see them on our blocks we would know what they do..no over time ..just doing there job ...

Brick resident82, there wasn't any overtime mandated for this it was voluntary on the employee's part. There were about 10-15 of them plus Glen C. There was 8 trucks with signs in the front, age, milage, repair costs, and how many trips it has taken to the dump, the signs weren't big enough to be put on the side and be able to read as it goes down the road.

It is so easy to read between the lines when it comes to the mayor and his cast of clowns. How can you not see it?

Here is how it goes, "my fellow tax payers, if you want to keep your trash collection, bulk pick and leaf pick up, we MUST buy all new equipment. The equipment we have is not suitable to sustain the department. In order to keep pubic works, we MUST purchase all new equipment. If we do not do this, I will have no choice but to close down public works, and institute private collection"

I believe they are purchasing a LOT of new equipment to go to single stream...
Single stream is suppose to save lots of money... where have we heard that before!!!
