Police Searching for Burglary Suspect

Public's help requested in identifying suspect

Brick police are asking the public’s help in identifying the suspect of a day time burglary that occurred last week.

The suspect, a young man whose sketch is attached to this article, is suspected of burglarizing a Roosevelt Drive resident's home.

When a resident of the street came home at about 12:25 p.m. July 13, she noticed the man emerging from her backyard. At the time, the man said he was delivering a package as the resident noticed her rear door open and no package on the ground, according to Capt. John Rein.

At that point, Rein said, the suspect jumped a fence and ran down Roosevelt Drive toward Route 70, where he was observed entering a beige colored mid-sized vehicle with a dark vinyl or cloth top.

A check of the house revealed the man had entered the residence and took jewelry from the master bedroom.

The suspect is described as a white male between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, approximately 20 years of age, with brown hair, hazel eyes, heavy build, and last seen wearing khaki shorts and a striped Polo shirt.

The sketch of the suspect was completed by the Toms River Police Department based on the victim's description.

Anyone with information about the burglary or the suspect is asked to contact Brick Township Police Detective Daniel Waleski at 732-262-1170.

Maple leaf would be a good guess, however he is not African American so I would say no to that. I just think it is another instance of a young adult in Brick Township with a sever drug addiction to high dosage pain killers or worse yet heroin. And he is trying to get money for his next fix.

Just another reason to get the hell out of this town. We are slowly but surely going down the toilet here in Brick. Now if the housing market would just come around so I can sell.

@Nonof your business.
Why do you hate Brick? The light house is on the rocks. The course girls are kicking and the subway is in the hole. Brick is nothing like that, so why? If you don't change your mind.......................DELTA CAN HAVE YOU OUT'TA HERE OVER NIGHT. Are you chained to an imoveable object? Can't you leave by your own power? Maybe some of your neighbors will help you escape if that's what you want? Tell us all about it fella. Is there anyone out there who CAN HELP THE WIDOW'S SON????

Actually we are a little worse off than some towns. Because we are not located near any real job base and we have no public transportation that isn't a joke. We are in an undesirable location due to the long distances from New York and Philadelphia. Many many young people are relocating back to the cities especially young professionals. Homes are seriously just sitting on the market regardless of price because we are in commutation distance of NOTHING. We ARE a little stuck here whether we care or not is another matter. I sometimes feel we have very few services. We have no fire department apart from the volunteers God Bless them, I never see trees being pruned, or streets swept. Only Windward Beach apparently. The leaf removal is a joke and the poor High School is in shambles. Apart from that it is okay. Not great, okay. The resevoir and the hospital system additions are improvements on the positive side that I can think of. We look forward to the new library remodel as well. I do hope they will try to keep the kindergarden activities separate from those who like quiet in the library. Lately it always seemed like such a day care center in there. Thanks for tolerating my random thoughts!

As a sales agent for a major Home Security Company, burglaries like this will continue. Day light burglaries when no one is home is the easiest for a burglar. The State Police have said that summertime burglaries happen because quick turnaround jewelry and electronics and of course loose cash will support their drug habits.

The local police can not be everywhere, but a Home Alarm System will give the police time to respond and catch a burglar. I checked last month and the PD had over 175 burglaries in a 2 month period.

Best defense against burglary when you are not at home is a big nasty dog willing to bite intruders.

Anthony -- good advice! I think I'll do that tomorrow. One other suggestion in the same realm is to photocopy or scan the contents of your wallet. If it is lost or stolen you will have all of your credit/debit account numbers readily available as well as the phone numbers to the bank.
