Point Beach Nixes Court Appearances for 'After Hours' Tickets
Fine now set at $48 bucks, officials say
District 4 parking plan tickets no longer require a court appearance and now cost $48, according to two Point Beach council members.
The tickets can now be paid by mail or online, only requiring a mandatory court appearance for those pleading not guilty, wrote Point Beach Councilmember Michael Corbally in Patch Comments on Monday.
"Letters will go out this week for folks who have received tickets prior to today," Corbally wrote. "Sorry for the confusion."
Corbally could not be reached to elaborate.
However, Councilmember Kristine Tooker, when reached by telephone on Monday evening, said she, other council members and police officials had received an email on Monday afternoon that the mandatory court appearance had been eliminated.
Municipal Court Administrator Michelle A. Sargent had written an email to Borough Administrator Christine Riehl notifying her that there is no longer a mandatory court appearance.
Tooker said, "This is what we wanted, we had never intended for there to be a mandatory court appearance."
Sargent's email also said the District 4 parking plan ticket is now on the municipal violation fee schedule. That means the District 4 fine, like other parking fines, is now set at $48. Riehl had forwarded the email to the mayor, council and police officials on Monday afternoon.
Until now, there had been no set fee. The amount of the fine was to be determined at court appearances.
Sargent's email also requested that the news be posted on the municipal website, Tooker said.
The parking plan went into effect on June 22, after warnings were issued from June 15 to June 22. The plan calls for no parking from midnight to 6 a.m. on municipal roads in District 4 until Sept. 15, except for local residents, business owners and employees who have parking permit tags hanging from their rear view mirrors.
Parking is free in the Silver Lake parking lot at Arnold and Ocean avenues from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Municipal Attorney Sean Gertner had said at the last council meeting that he anticipated that he and court officials could find a way to eliminate the mandatory court appearance for the District 4 tickets. The ticket was a "court-mandated summons" apparently because it had never been included on the municipal violation fee schedule.
According to Gertner, Municipal Court Judge James Liguori has said the court is not accepting any payment of fines until there is a resolution of lawsuits fighting the parking plan. One such suit was filed by Jenkinson's and Martell's and the other by a group including a local marina, commercial charter fishing boat captains and residents.

I also stay out of point due to parking pay stations. I guess that is what they want. Why else would they make it so difficult to park. I try not to pay for parking on principle

I will stay out of Point until November when I move my boat to a Marina on Channel Drive. Then I will make it a point only to park on their property. Too bad, I'm a Brick resident and liked to go there, not anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The predatory parking is ridiculous...
They pay those kids a bonus based on tickets they put out.
I heard one person... who pay the "meter"... had the receipt on the dashboard with the time facing up... got there before the time expired... and got a ticket with a "post-time" on it.
But how do you fight that?
I recommended calling 911 to get a time stamp on your phone and with 911 dispatch in PPB.
How many of these kids are issuing tickets with "post-times" so they can get a bonus?

Everyone who gets a ticket should go fight it in court. No way could they handle it and it would drive their whole court system into a tailspin.

The $48.00 is still cheaper than a DWI. If I need to leave my car there and take a cab home I will, but I really don't go to Point anymore because of all the bullsh*t.

Same for Seaside Heights. They recently took advantage of me with their predatory parking regulations. Extorted $40 out of me. Now I avoid the place. So many places to go. So few dollars to spend. The answer is to go where one is made to feel welcome. After more than 50 years of being a shore resident, the welcome mat appears to be wearing out in places like PPB and SSH. Let them exploit the out of county residents. Of course over time they to will get wise and go elsewhere.

Like the person said above, all those that received tickets, should show up in court! One has to wonder when Barella looks into his mirror does he see his reflection?

I stopped going to pt beach boardwalk when "The Family" took over. $5.00 a slice, $1.00 a clam, $7.00 a beer, $6.00 an ice cream cone. $1.00 a spin on the wheels. The boardwalk business are gouging the customers and not paying their fair share in taxes to support the towns expenses. The reason the state let them stay open tils because the state would lose sales and liqour tax if they closed early. The town collects the same property tax no matter what the hours are. Go give your money to the boardwalk crooks. I will keep mine and go else where.

Last year I had family visit and I decided to take them to Point Boardwalk (otherwise known as Storino's Goldmine) I paid $30 to park even after explaining because we had elderly people, we wouldn't be more than an hour. They didn't care and there was no other places to park. So then we go up on the boardwalk and the kids in the family wanted to go on that crummy piece of crap roller coaster, we didn't want to buy a book of tickets, it would have cost almost $18 for two kids to ride on a thirty second roller coaster, F that we didn't do it. So then we just walked the boards, played a few games, took some picture and left within forty five minutes cause everything was just too expensive, so we paid thirty bucks for forty five minutes of enjoyment, NEVER AGAIN! It's cheaper to take the whole damn family to Great Adventure, at least there they would have fun. Between the "family" and the "politicians' Point has become a total rip off. Maybe the guy at the Frank Sinatra house should stop playing Frank and play selections from the "Godfather" instead. More fitting!

Woolston...
I don't think I ever saw parking at the private lots for over $20 bucks..
you could have dropped of the people and go find parking... handicap spots in the public lot next to the lake is FREE parking.
As for rides... you can buy individual tickets... the costs for the rides are similar to Seaside.
As for costs... lots of "FREE" stuff at Jenks...
On Sunday's, I typically go see Big Joe's Talent show at 7pm... it's FREE... I park for FREE... and there is some great talent!!!
There is Movie Night... that is FREE...
There is Radio Disney.... that is FREE
Music Fest nights.... that is FREE..
Fireworks every Thursday...
Lots of stuff to do at Jenks... you need to know the schedule...

Wildwood boardwalk food/drink prices are the same. Beach is free. Ride tickets cost more for the same rides in PPB. Even more for the bigger (better) rides. Another thing that Wildwood has the PPB is not able to have.....local option tax. Spend a night in a hotel...you pay 14% in taxes/fees above the state tax amount.

Supply and demand. If people weren't willing to pay those prices, they wouldn't be charging them. If you want cheep, grab a six pack of Papst Blue Ribbon, order of the dollar menu at McDonalds and sit in the parking lot. Or just stay home and eat hot pockets.

That is not what I paid Aqualung..
$6 for ice cream... lol... that is a large in a waffle cone..
Small is $3.50
Guess what... the ice cream place on Rte. 88 near Burnt Tavern is $5.50.. and you get to eat your ice cream in the parking lot!!! The small is $3.
I go to PPB often... NEVER EVER seen parking over $20..
You can always go to the Subway next to the boardwalk at Arnold and Ocean and get your $5 footlong!! Bring it to the beach or do what lots of people do.... pack a cooler for the beach.

wonder when they are going to get smart & give out a " local" discount at the vendors on the broadwalk... IT MIGHT actually build business, so many of us stay away during the summer bcz of the high cost & the bennies... it may actually get us to come back if ya offer a discount to locals only ... (from atlantic highlands to manahawkin ??) (( why NOT, theres student discount, senior discounts why not give something to the people that help build the town yr round.. NOT abuse it for 3 months )))
